Musigny Neutral Newbie July 3, 2011 Share July 3, 2011 Hi, I'm preparing to change sport cam for my 147, has anyone here have any comments and suggestions on this matter? Thanks ↡ Advertisement
Mona-vie 1st Gear July 4, 2011 Share July 4, 2011 I don't recommend changing cams for daily driving. YOu will lose low end torque and may have a rough idling (depending on how aggressive are the cams). Chaning cams alone also not enough, you need to retune the car to take advantage of the cams, else its useless.
Le_Stig Neutral Newbie July 4, 2011 Share July 4, 2011 Hi, I'm preparing to change sport cam for my 147, has anyone here have any comments and suggestions on this matter? Thanks If you must, go for C&B Cams with 272 deg high lift, yours a 1.6 or 2L TS? If yours is a 1.6, I may know someone selling these as he is not longer using it. After installation, you would need to fine tune the flat spots and A/F.

Le_Stig Neutral Newbie July 4, 2011 Share July 4, 2011 272 and high lift...... confirm no more low end..... and idling will be horrible.... Not really, a few 147s did it with idling no problem. Tuning has to be done to compensate the low end but you are right, expect some low end to be lost.

Tuning has to be done to compensate the low end but you are right, expect some low end to be lost. No the idle will still be OK (no stalling or anything). My meaning of horrible is that it will sound aweful. Cause I did install 280 cams with +1mm lift. I don't like the sound of the car when it idles....lol.... Thus, I change it to something more mild 264 and its not bad actually. I don't really lose low end and I get better mid range. High end not as much as 280 but since I hardly rev till redline, it works better. My stock cams are very low just 239. Thus I think also need to depend on stock cams. If they are already pretty high, then changing to 272 will be less of an issue. If got VVT, then can use it to compensate for loss of low end also. Le_Stig Neutral Newbie July 4, 2011 Share July 4, 2011 Mind I ask what is your lift angles like both stock and aftermarket? Also the lobe center angles and stock compression of engine? Fixing of cams is not just about the higher lift cams but whether your engine can compensate these cams. Anyway, below are some write ups on the TS engine so you understand why it can compliment this 272 deg cams: Firstly, Alfa's TwinSpark aka TS engine has slightly higher compression for an NA engine measuring at about 11.3:1 to about 9.3:1 (depending on which capacity TS engine). This is incorporated with two other devices to enhance the performance, the "Camshaft Phase Variator" or the Alfistis called it Cam Variator and the Variable Intake Length Control or Modular Inlet Manifold on the later 1.6, the 1.8 and 2.0 litre versions. Rather similar to the VVT you've mentioned. Where both these variable systems are deployed they are controlled in tandem by the ECU in response to rpm, load, and throttle position. To optimise the quantity of air drawn into the engine the control unit checks: inlet timing on two angle positions (and) geometry of inlet ducts at two lengths. At maximum torque speed the control unit sets the "open" phase cam advanced by
Musigny Neutral Newbie July 4, 2011 Author Share July 4, 2011 Thanks to both your valuable comments and suggestions; mine is 147 2.0L; do you have any good recommendation on where to tune once the cam is fixed?
Le_Stig Neutral Newbie July 5, 2011 Share July 5, 2011 Thanks to both your valuable comments and suggestions; mine is 147 2.0L; do you have any good recommendation on where to tune once the cam is fixed? You can try AutoSpritze, they do 147 tuning for TI specs long ago. Google their contact and give them a call.

Hi Sabbie, do go to the Alfisti Section in MCF for more info on the 147 models. There are threads about 147s, Selespeed and the overall reliability. Well, to put it simply, no car is reliable without good and proper maintainence. Anyway, we should be expecting Giulietta to arrive some time in early 2012 from my sources. But IMHO, given the current climate of high COEs, I won't be surprised to see new Giulietta priced $160k to $180k or more given that the 159s new are already priced that range and prices are continuing to move up north. Our neighbour MY recently had their first Giulietta delivered to the customer (if you are lucky to see one). Only 1 piece there but not tropicalised.
