Rb1623m Clutched June 30, 2011 Share June 30, 2011 At the end of the day, it's how you carry yourself and be able to convince the interviewer that you are the best candidate he is looking to fill the position. As long as you wear decently and look smart, it's ok to do without tie. Speaking from personal experience when I went for interviews in my last job and current job (HOD). ↡ Advertisement

Many years back, Jurong Ice Skating informed male job applicants to attend interview to wear tie (only one of us turned up wearing one). Perhaps that was the practice in Japan (even for Maintenance Technician appointment).

Do not dress to intimate him. Sometimes just smart casual can be intimating to some others. Lately, I wear/downgrade to T-shirt while working, to brand-in with some FT colleagues. Years back, I turned up for lecture in long sleeves only, while the Lecturer was dress smart casual. On subsequent lectures, he dressed in coat and tie. I believe it also got to do with how you present the dressing. Example: During my school days, my cotton Army Cadet uniform looked smarter than the Officer's Tecteron ones (laugh). For the same position, e.g. IT Executive, you may be expected to wear tie if company is in CBD than one in suah teng (e.g. Jurong) or a bank versus a marine related industry. JaydenSTI 1st Gear July 1, 2011 Share July 1, 2011 actually attire will only good for first impression, and should the interviewee is confident in his word and impresses me during the interview, i will not even take it into consideration of what he/she wore. however, it would be a huge discount on his/her chance should he/she just boasting all the way in up market attire, to me at least..... ↡ Advertisement
