Shull Turbocharged June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 (edited) I dumped starhub internet 4yrs back when their fat green pipe didn't go as fast as promised.. jumped ship to SNBB and never looked back.. speeds are always up to the 10Mbps promised, sometimes even more.. as for Cust Service, never really experience before because there is no need for me to call their customer service. Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 whos MIO TV is collecting dust till august? Mine until Jan next year. Signed up for the 50% discount and it's a waste of money, 99% of the time still watch Starhub's streaming.
Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 totally not surprised when a 1min phonecall overseas costed me S$8.10. Just use those VOIP programs and buy their credits, it's very much cheaper. These VOIP programs can make use of Wifi or 3G to call and supports many hp models. If don't want, then buy those calling cards like what most bangalas use to call home. If you still prefer to call through the telcos, then you deserved to be leeched. Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 oh. that. my dad never used singtel AT ALL. before starhub he used pacnet ADSL. never stinktel I stopped giving Singtel business more than a decade ago when they charged me for something I did not use and insist their billing system is right. Only early this year wifey tempted with the hopeless Mio TV and signed up for it and end up also never watch. If not, SingTel would never get business from me at all. Starhub offers free home line and even with that, it's hardly used. Mobile phones have taken over traditional land lines. Just a matter of time when Singtel's profits will drop further. VOIP is their number 1 competitor in international dialing. They've also lost their share of profits in public payphones.
Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 i think my family's first was Cyberway... 14.4k dialup the termination to starhub is crazee, i had to call in 3 times after returning the box coz they kept billing me even if i've terminated it.... Cyberway was bought over by Starhub.
Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 Yeah, between 1997 to 2001, it would most possibly be Pacific Internet Dial-up or at most ADSL over Singtel's phone line. In fact, the first Singtel Magix was ATM-based, there wasn't even island-wide ADSL until around 1999 or 2000 when all the Telecom exchange are upgraded. I was on Pacific Internet 56k Dial-Up from 1995 till around 1997, switched to Singtel Magix ADSL then to Starhub around 1999 or 2000, after they lay the cables in my estate. Was on Telecom pager (analog), then Singtel AMPS mobile (analog) then PCN phone (1800MHz digital) until I switched to M1 GSM around 1998, till now. Got my then-GF a Starhub CDMA phone when Starhub first launched, think around 1999 or 2000. Once upon a time, there was one and only Singtel a.k.a. TAS a.k.a Singapore Telecom. Wow, that was history. We are probably around the same time. Singtel terminated the Zone-phone service and pushed eveeyone over to their GMS network. At that time, everyone is asked to get the Nokia Liberty II mobile phone. Later when M1 came up, I switched over to them and SMS was still unlimited at that time for all plans. At that time, many people are saying that the Ericsson 388 or 688 has special codes that can be used to make free phone calls. I also hop on to M1's CMDA network using the Motorola's Startac's flipphone. My pager was also switched from Singtel to M1 and finally terminated coz my company issued one from Sunpage. Expertz 1st Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 Apparently quality of both the internal wiring, as well as the wiring going into your unit plays a part. Most of these telephone wiring are old unless you're in a new estate. For Starhub, the cable would be up to ~17 year old and in some cases, the cable are bent or bitten by rats, the terminators or splitters can also age over time and affecting signal quality. Some of these problems are more apparent when you try to run demanding apps such as HD content streaming. Old school voice phone is only 8-bit mono duplex audio at best. Similar problem with HomePlug users with old electrical wiring. on the contrary, coaxial cables are shielded built to withstand damage caused by time; its the 30 yr old copper wires that are more likely to have problems with being bent and bitten by rats
Acieed 1st Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 Yes, both are possible and copper wires more easily damaged. on the contrary, coaxial cables are shielded built to withstand damage caused by time; its the 30 yr old copper wires that are more likely to have problems with being bent and bitten by rats
Happily1986 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 (edited) tink it's shared content rather than a common box coz both using diff system. but i know which box i WON'T be going for..... i see but how come raddy always like to box you online huh? Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 you dont watch BPL? Hardly have the time. Wifey signed up coz she was offered 50% off the Jingxuan movies channel. The movies are not that great compared to Starhub's 866 and 867. After 1 month, the MIO box is powered down, waiting for contract to end.
Bystander50 5th Gear June 29, 2011 Share June 29, 2011 on the contrary, coaxial cables are shielded built to withstand damage caused by time; its the 30 yr old copper wires that are more likely to have problems with being bent and bitten by rats Unless the copper in the cooxial cable is high quality type like our electrical cables, these cables will breakdown quite fast. If you are staying in a house that is at least 10 years old, go take a look at the telephone box outside or on the riser. Some of the cables seemed to have turned "crispy" such that the cable may break after a slight touch. The screws on the terminators are mostly rusting away.
