StarHub TV to increase prices in face of rising costs

Apparently quality of both the internal wiring, as well as the wiring going into your unit plays a part. Most of these telephone wiring are old unless you're in a new estate. For Starhub, the cable would be up to ~17 year old and in some cases, the cable are bent or bitten by rats, the terminators or splitters can also age over time and affecting signal quality. Some of these problems are more apparent when you try to run demanding apps such as HD content streaming. Old school voice phone is only 8-bit mono duplex audio at best.

Similar problem with HomePlug users with old electrical wiring.

how come location dependent? it's not wireless or something high tech wat. it juz plugs into the old-fashioned home phone line socket and my landline doesn't hang.

Same problem as to why some SNBB are having frequent disconnections while some are damn stable.. It largely depends on your cable age and quality. There are cases where SNBB are having disconnections because the wires are so old that some are partially broken. My home is relatively new, built in the early 2000s, so my connections are very stable.

Have given up on Singtel customer no-service since the "Magix" days :D Internet down for >1 week in an entire district and all they can offer is "use dial-up lor". No refund, no reasons, or ETA to resume service given. When their phone support was jammed, went down to their help desk and found there was aleady a few hundred people there... really hopeless.

Was impressed by Starhub's Customer Service VP gesture when he offer his e-mail address for feedback, to subscribers affected by one of the worse outage several years ago. Even if its wayang, its still a nice gesture and a show of accountability.

Also agree on free onsite troubleshooting [thumbsup].. unfortunately, their content and pricing by today's standards are KNS. Hope they (or MDA) will find a good way out that make both business sense for them and SG consumers.

It is the switch that link the last mile of the cable to our home.

Older switch cannot handle higher speed. Therefore the unstable or slower internet speed for some.

Cable too long (from the switch to our home) will also affect.
