Wow, never expected to find a thread like this here. I always thought not many peeps were into the 80s and 90s J-Pop scene in SG.

Wonder if anyone remembers Miho Nakayama, Chisato Moritaka, Arisa Mizuki, Rie Miyazawa, Zard, Wands, Wink and the Kome Kome Club?

Those were some of the acts I remembered listening too back then.

Those were the days of Japan economic boom, in flux of Japanese electronics, fashion, TV .. SBC used to screen a lot of Japanese drama in the 80s up till early 1990s before the rise of Internet, China and South Korea, and the burst of the Japanese economic bubble.

I would split Japanese pop culture after early 90s as a different era - prior to 90s, they were largely focus only on the domestic market, after early 90s it was the age of globalisation and Internet.

90s is probably the era of Visual Kei Emergence.

The radio station used to have a Japan Hour on a Sat morning with Choo Swee Lian. Then I was afix to it on my National RX5010.
