KARTer 2nd Gear June 22, 2011 Share June 22, 2011 Was in my colleague's car and he 'followed' a big truck with a long tail overhang.......... we were on the left lane, the truck right lane........... slow moving traffic but when the truck turned right its tail swung out and nearly hit the right fender of our car (our car was slightly 'behind' the truck at its left rear corner)... anyone experienceds similar near-miss?? ↡ Advertisement

In other countries, long vehicles have warning signs on their rear corners cautioning drivers not to overtake them on either side while they are turning. Timex1441 1st Gear June 22, 2011 Share June 22, 2011 tat's why for experiened drivers, will either go fast fast n be in front of the long bus/truck, or go slow n let them turn first....going side by side is too risky
Vega Turbocharged June 22, 2011 Share June 22, 2011 ya.its a judgement call. either let the long vehicle pass of go ahead of it.

Another risk is to keep left while cycling, and this longer vehicle also turn left. You may end up jumping into a drain if no footpath on your left. As a schoolboy, I was twice hit by lorry, as I did not jump into 2.0M deep drain. So lucky, the lorry hit only hit my schoolbag on both occassions, and neither the schoolbag nor the books damaged. Yes, this sounds very basic safety requirement/feature, hope LTA have something similar for such trucks.

Talking about turning in the same direction right next to a long truck side by side... due to their long wheel base, the rear wheels (inner ones) will take a 'short cut' and the long body of the truck will follow this 'short cut' and hit the side of our car/bike if we go side by side too close it.........
