Pisces69 6th Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 i'm driving a normal car... Normally i would warm up my car first for like 5mins.... Then on the AC... Suprisingly, i find it much smoother when i'm driving after doing so.... The AC also gets colder... That 5 mins everytime u drive wil add up to quite a lot of wasted petrol. Modern cars u can just start driving after maybe 20-30secs n let it warm faster as u drive.
Pisces69 6th Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 what is your classification of ''sport'' car?....znged car? or lam-bo and far-lorry? In SG, every car is a "sports" car as long as the driver thinks it is.
Sleepy-T 1st Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 In sunny SG, no real need to "warm up" cos its already warm. Just drive as usual till the temp needle moves past the 1/4 mark then everything is already quite warm n can just drive as usual. When just start, drive a bit slow under 2K rpm is good already but if u need to open up to avoid something, just do it cos it wont really cause much wear unless u do it all the time. U just might feel engine a bit less power only. just think of it everyday spend 10~15 min waiting in ur car for warm-up

Pisces69 6th Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 that the reason why u "rev" ur car I seldom rev unless need to do quick overtaking. Otherwise I stay between 2K-3K rpm more than enough. Though most of the time hovering around the 2K mark. Slightly above 2K already doing 100kmh on eway.
Pisces69 6th Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 just think of it everyday spend 10~15 min waiting in ur car for warm-up I needed a couple of mins (abt 5mins) warming up my old Corona (carb car) when the auto choke was not working otherwise no power n sometimes a slight jerking till its warm. After I changed a new carb, no need to warm up cos the auto choke takes care of that automatically. New cars the ECU wil automatically adjust the A/F mix so u dont feel much diff when the engine is cold.

Anyway, i will start up the car & do anything else i need to do b4 move off.

Icyfreakass 1st Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 One more qn. Will killing the engine immediately after i stop damage it? Or must i let it cool down awhile even though its an NA car. Anyone knows the rationale behind this?
Firestorm78 Neutral Newbie June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 One more qn. Will killing the engine immediately after i stop damage it? Or must i let it cool down awhile even though its an NA car. Anyone knows the rationale behind this? No need to cool down. Even for turbo cars...no need to cool down unless one has been pushing the engine hard for the past half hour or so...then maybe spend about 30sec to cool it down. For normal cruising or driving, there's no need to cool down the engine. Another scenario: Driver A boosting his turbo car. After that, normal cruising for the next 10min to his HDB carpark. No need to cool down also.
5936 1st Gear June 20, 2011 Share June 20, 2011 Heard of the warming up part. but not the sprinting after warm up period. Is that one of the reason, local police dont use sport cars. ↡ Advertisement
