This spark plug gap testing tool was introduced into the US marketplace about 15 years ago.

For mech doing troubleshooting non-starting, this in-line spark plug tools is a hot favorite

In my case, I upsized the ignition coil to the then famous mallory coil.

but I made a careless mistake of not connecting 1 distribution lead and shorted the coil....

consequence.... tow to proper workshop and replaced everything back to stock.

So adventurers. Please be careful, check n check before starting

Nothing is free, we all pay to learn. :D Most of the time we also pay the mech to learn on the job !!

Yes, due to erosion cause by the jumping spark. Overtime the gap will get wider and wider resulting in poor spark as the spark voltage is not strong enough to jump the wide gap. This is the cause of engine lossing power due to excess gap and poor engine combustion.

If you have this spark plug gap tester you can cut the trial and error method and save alot of time doing test run.

Pro!

Now I know so little about spark plugs. Suddenly.

Bosch ir fusion plugs look like it can resist gap widening. Besides hard iridium, the ground electrodes are positioned, in a way of geometry, that's parallel to tip, rather than L shapes above tip.

But I thought the additional 3 ground electrode is going to block the flames.

Yes, thats the main concern. Another concern is that additional grounding electrodes can cause detonation. Btw, the plug is strictly for NA cars only. I have tried them on my celica. Misfires when there is boost.
