What are you guys opinions on Jaguar?

Singapore is one of the very few markets where Merc and BMW is "valued" above Jaguar, due to the poor reputation of Jaguar's relaibility. However globally, Jaguar commands respect as a more prestigious brand. IMHO, Jaguar is getting it's footing firm and stable for future growth and the quality has improved by leaps and bounds, as can be seen the JD Edwards survey in US. It has a fantastic heritage and has successfully bridged the old with the new, with the new XF and XJ. Jaguar also has geniuses like Mike Cross and Ian Callum who lead their respective fields.

I have been driving my X-Type 2.0V6 since 2006 and I must say I still enjoy driving it and the way it looks. And to my surprise, it has been reliable bar a few small niggles relating to trim in the first 2 years, which Malayan Motors (now Wearnes Auto) fixed. Problem free for the last 3 years.

Jaguar does not stinge on the quality of the materials, which I learnt from a German colleague who used to work for International Automotive Group, and one can see and feel the quality of the materials used.

My only quibble is the lack of engine choices to fit the requirements of our local market (my AJ20V6's a thirsty animal, 6.8 to 7.5km/ l). So while I was aiming for a XF next, I'm seriously considering the RR Evoque to replace my X-Type. Heard there's gonna be a Jag SUV in 2014 but I think that's a tough call.

My German colleague told me in 2006 when I was choosing between a 3-series or a C-Class or IS250 or Jag X-Type, he told me while all are "entry-level" cars, it is only the Jag which has the brand prestige, as "it's a Jag" (at least in the eyes of Europeans).

I know that Tata Motors fought with the mgmt of Jaguar Cars to push through a X-Type replacement and they are right, as a company needs some volume to grow and be sustainable (just look at Ferrari). I think JLR being acquired by Tata Motors is the best thing that has happened to JLR, just by Ratan Tata being a car guy and more "British" than Fomoco! Also Tata has the financial muscle to invest for the long term.

BTW Kiadaw, I hope that you'll realise the chance to work in Jaguar!

Neutral Newbie

As an owner, I think it is a great car!

Luxurious, spacious, fantastic finishing interior and exterior.

Handles well, and haven't had any issues with it. The touch screen console display could be a little faster reaction though.

Anyway the warranty and free service is fully covered for 3 years, so it is hassle free ownership. All parts are covered except tyres and battery. Even brakepads are covered under the free servicing! :D

Oh, XF facelifted, just learnt from here! The new "face" looks so damn good. A combi of BMW3, Audi 6 and Lexus IS and certainly remains most original XF look. I like it! I was thinking of getting a 2nd hand xf and it seems to me that my plan has to hold back for a little while.

One question to XF owners, most xf I saw only has twin exhausts but I just found out there is a quad exhaust XF, is it only 5.0l XF supercharge has quad?

Btw, I saw a Koupe with quad exhausts yesterday!?? Modified, I think.

You are probably right there.

About the Koup with quad exhaust, a person with dual anus does not necessary run faster, right? ^_^

Could be the XF-R, the rival to M5.

The quad exhausts are standard on XFR, XJR and XKR I think. The Diesels also come with quad but looks different.

Original quad exhaust cars look pretty cool and I know they usually very costly.

As for those fake one, the driver doesn't feel "paisay" meh? [laugh]

Jaguar is going to come out with a 3 series, C-cass, A4, IS250 competitor in 2012 probably.

It will look like a cross between the current XF and XJ.

I traded my GS 300 mid 2005 Super Luxury Model in for a late 2006 XJ6 LWB Executive about a year ago. The GS was a great car to drive and fairly quiet and well built. But the XJ gave a great sense of occasion. The rear space is huge - you can throw a cocktail party there! It is whisper quiet and because fot he all aluminium body a full tank of about 70 litres can get you over 700km. It is a car to have a relationship with and servicing done by ex-MM people in Ubi is reasonable and much cheaper than Lexus which no one outside seems to one to touch as Borneo controls parts. The airmatic ride is outstanding and acceleration quite good despite the size. Parking can be a problem in some car parks as it is long! Hope to drive it to the ground and then beyond.

If you are thinking of a Jag look for used models - they depreciate more than MB, BMW. BUt I think they have a character and aura which the Germans cannot engineer into their cars. Especially the last XJ models. A 6 year old one can be had for about 100K or less. About 10K depreciation

I really love the looks of the future Jag compact executive saloon which is heading towards the right trend of a "4-dr coupe" style

Hope it is a 2L to 2.5L turbo :)

TS, try youtubing some Top Gear episodes..find that they always review Jag cars.

My feel is that Jag cars are underpowered..3l and only 230 horses? Come on..bring on a better powerplant..and I am sure I will not hesitate to adopt the Mah Bow Tan policy of taking long tenure loans to buy it.

Also another opinion is that its styling cues tend to take after the Bentleys..maybe it is a good thing?

haha..good luck..hope to see u in a jag..soon [thumbsup]

well, they did bring in a better powerplant. The 3.0 diesel should be good enough for you to adopt the Mahbolo Tan policy [thumbsup]

ever since Jaguar no longer has the low-rider, long rear trunk styling, i don't like any of them anymore, the last are the early-mid 2000's X, S-type, XJ, and all of them before that

don't like the newer XF, XK, XJ etc look, imo only

Ya the current 3L V6 Twin turbo diesel not fast enough to make you adopt still? How fast you want? :o
