What are you guys opinions on Jaguar?

Hi guys, I am doing a research on Jaguar automotive, & would be glad if you guys can contribute on your impression & knowledge of Jaguar (the automaker, not the dealer, Malayan Motors)

 

Some of the things to trigger your mind are

 

- How does it compare to its rival like BMW, Merc, Audi, Lexus, in your view.

 

- Would you buy one, why?

 

- Discuss on what do think of its current lineup & what it should include in future? Engine choice (Turbo charge, Hybrid, full electric, drivetrain (AWD, RWD, or even FWD), tranmission

 

- Discuss on its history & prestige

 

- Should it needs a Halo car like R8, , LFA, SLS in its current ?

 

- Any others that I missed.

 

Just so you guys know, this is not just a internet discussion, but part of a presentation I will bring with me to Coventry in July, & I really appreciate everyone's input.

OK Jaguar has always been my fav car since I started driving. Liked the timeless shape n luxury/ride comfort.

 

Only didnt get cos of the FC n spares ex.

 

Last time I consider a COE 2.8 cos seldom drive but the R Tax make me

 

Also last time got a joke. If u buy Jag, u need 2. 1 to drive n 1 to b in the WS getting repaired.

 

 

Since Ford owned Jag, the reliability has improved.

 

Now Tata owns Jag, seems even better. Their newer models r better quality n luxury is

 

I might still get a COE Jag if the price is right n its condition is still

 

Its still my fav ride but the only thing putting me of wil b the cost to own n maintain it.

 

But its a really class n comfortable car.

Ford did built some good procedures into JLR (JaguarLandrover), & TATA have near zero to do with the improvement. TATA knows very little about private cars. Its the foundation built by Ford & the the effort by the engineers at Whitley. Their testing standards & requirement that suppliers must meet are very strict.

unfortunately Jaguar does not have entry level models like the 320, A4 or C180. or else I would have been tempted to consider one..their cheapest model is out of reach for me, alas...

I think Jaguar is in an identity crisis of sorts. It feels like it has the air to be with the snotty brands like Bentley and Aston Martin etc but yet it still seems mass market. I feel it should sort out itself and decide whether it wants to be a niche luxury marquee or an automaker trying to tackle the market all round.

 

I think that the in thing among automakers as of late is in creating a corporate identity which is best seen in the front fascia of the car. Some may disagree with me and think that a repeititive design on the grille amongst all the models in the whole stable smacks of a lack of imagination. But i feel that it inspires brand confidence. It tells me for once that there is a consistent and holistic approach to design engineering and R&D development as a whole. Ambitious brand-wide roadmaps impress me because it tells me that the management knows where it is heading in the short and mid term(s)

 

How many times have we seen boring lineups from carmakers only to find an one hit wonder within the range? Save for that one model, the rest are forgettable and best left consigned to history.

i like jaguar very much but i have never owned one. so i definitely can't comment on all those stuff like handling, power etc. but I have sat in XJ and XF before, and i love them.

 

there's only one generation of jags that i detest.... the X/S type. The X-type looks like trying too hard attempt by jags to capture the 3series, c class market. The S type? it looks like crap.

 

 

From the previous XJ to the current XJ and the XF, all look very british to me (thats a damn good thing).

the XF is a near perfect car, near perfect attempt by jags to revive the brand.

The XJ is equally alluring, i hate the butt though. the butt is a love or hate thing. some people love it. some people dont.

 

I do hope jag can follow the likes of lexus.

don't have too many unnecessary engine size etc. stick to one model, one or two engine size.

with the COEs now, jags can't really sell by volumes anyway (esp when competing against merc, bmw, audi).

so keep a little more brand exclusivity and gun for the one or two sweet spot engine size...

eg. XF 2litre turbo or 3 litre V6.

XJ 3 litre V6 turbo or 4.2litre V8.

 

BUT.... bring in two or three more models.

SUV?

new sports/cabriolet car?

a 3series/c class competitor? 1.6 litre turbo Jaguar XS (corny for extra small) perhaps?

 

 

and with european makers toying around with small engine turbos... perhaps jag can follow suit?

 

basically for Jag,

avoid following the germans. ( only follow german reliability please )

 

stay rooted to its british heritage!!!!!!!!

Yes, Jaguar do not have an entry level executive sedan in its current lineup.

 

ANyway there are only 3 cars in its current lineup (with different configuration)

 

XF (rivalry to competitors cars like 5 series, Audi A6)

XJ (rivalry to 7 series, S class)

XK (rivalry to A5, 6 series)

 

They are panning, or already working on an entry level sedan as we speak, & expending their lineup.

Some very good points made. Jag have supercharger on their "R" models, but no turbo, last I check.

 

Jaguar is one of the few luxury car maker that all their lineup is built & developed in their home country. There are however talks to have factory in India or China, especially with huge tax on import cars in China. BMW, Audi far exceed the Jaguar in China (at lest in Shanghai).
