Sirex Neutral Newbie June 2, 2011 Share June 2, 2011 I worked in Shell and Chevron. You are expected to take on more additional roles to improve your appraisal. My personal observation is oil majors complicate simple things whereas the real world outside will simplify complicated things. anyone working in oil & gas (i.e. schlumberger, FMC, Cameron, baker hughes)? is the work stressful? hope someone working inside can shed some advice..thanks. 5936 1st Gear June 2, 2011 Share June 2, 2011 Depends on the state of automation. For new modern plants with full automation, you can even leave it to run on it's own, including auto shut down. Older plants, less automation, remote monitorings requires regular site checkings and adjustments. Stress comes in the form of KPI and endless audits by different interest groups. Bonus time also stressful

Icedbs Turbocharged June 2, 2011 Share June 2, 2011 Strange people talk about stress, but nobody talk about physical attributes of the job. Before those stress, if any, comes to you, you need to make sure you can take the physical aspect of the job first. I was involved in the construction of rigs before, and unless you love climbing heights, walking up flights and flights of stairs, and wish your NS would have been 4 years instead, you would prefer to be in hell than a shipyard. I was a fitness guy, so I love the physical aspect of it. If you are weak, can't jog a mile, etc, leave the oil and gas industry alone.
