(but not for the last few days due to rain sadly) anyway, sorry am obsessed with smart home stuff ... still trying to see what else i can do without pissing my wife off 6

Adrianli Hypersonic January 12, 2021 Share January 12, 2021 First time entering my front wooden door w/o the need of a key!!! Installed the August digital door lock that I got it from @RadX on Sunday and get to used it for the first time today. So far so good for me. Thou still have to use key to open the gate lock and padlock on the gate. Waiting for the next digital version for these. Especially the gate lock which needs to be slim and retrofit the olden type of gate lock.
Thaiyotakamli Supersonic January 12, 2021 Share January 12, 2021 Just reviewing been using this samsung door lock for 8 yrs ald. So far so good. Changed battery every 1-2 yrs depend on battery type. can be open by finger print, pin or manual key. So for past 8 yrs i nvr carry any key except car key with attached condo card duplicated into small rfid tag. If i go for swim just bring condo access card. very convenient. Maybe next time move house will learn into full automation like spawn house🙈😆 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwsiEVqy_orOT0RFTGJqeGpUS1FmbW53d0I4TzhjMlo1NmM0/view?usp=drivesdk

Provided there's no adult with a handphone around? Or if you left your home without bringing your phone down, say to go to the pool. You got the august keypad? Anyway after some searching, the August keypad has some unfavorable reviews. So I'm probably going to get this to counter the problem. A Yale Assure lock, has 2 keys, numeric keypad and yet still have the august capabilities. Covers all the bases i want. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GQ6G3WR/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B07GQ6G3WR&linkCode=as2&tag=everythingrei-20&linkId=6f9e38cdd0010a5e5d3f4ee9ac891841 Edited June 21, 2021 by Lala81

That's if you have a cylindrical lockset deadbolt with a key. Which is not that common in Singapore anymore. Most doors in Sg nowadays are mortise locks. I'm hesitant to use a smart mortise lock. Some of the videos, angmohs install it on interior deadbolt with no key. That's why I never understood the key part. Lol

(i only use the mortise when travelling since its far stronger). for everyday usage we just use august. my kids are 3 and 1 ... so long way to go for them. besides, i can remotely unlock my gate, my house main door and see who is coming and going through homekit ... basically my whole house from the min you enter the gate is controlled by homekit; august lock for main door phillips hue + motion sensor for common areas philips hue for living / dining areas (including the multi color bulbs ... need to sit down and figure out how to sync my tv audio with the LED strips) fibaro homekit for controlling dumb lights (like my balcony lights / car porch spotlight set on a timer / automation based on script via homekit) its quite an obsession these days but as @RadX will tell you, nothing beats using voice to get things done ... if i tell siri 'goodnight' she will off every single light (or report error for those that have issue) and check the main door and gate are both in the 'lock' position. i also have a separate script on my apple watch that unlocks my gate once im within 100m of my house (mainly because my 3 year old keeps pressing the buttons on my watch, so whenever i am not near home i can safely give him the watch and even if he accidentally taps the unlock gate script ... it wont unlock after verifying my gps location) you're going down a slippery slope thats all i can say .. hahahaha 1

I don't particularly want to use WiFi switches or smart bulbs. Can use smart bulbs but I'm almost all down lights type of person. I don't want to get WiFi light switch also cos risk of problems is too lehcheh. Hands free door unlock for me when there are groceries or dabao food, voice controlled ceiling fans enough. Definitely Landed more use for smart home. Apartment less so.

Apartment less so. surprisingly not many problems. im using fibaro for the dumb lights, its actually v stable. in the last 1.5 years, had 1 issue. regardless, all of the lights can still be manually controlled by physical switches. i also thought i will stop at just the lights but once i realied how i could tie everything in (so like when i drive home and i unlock the gate, if arriving home after 7pm, to on certain lights to guide my way up the house ...) its just fun to tinker with, i guess being stuck at home, manage to set up the whole house to the point where i probably turn on/off a manual switch at the most, once a day (for my wardrobe, forgot to wire one of the switches, so just live with it haha) ↡ Advertisement
