I have a PC base HDD; how do I format to let both system (Mac & PC) recongise it?

I read online that I can use MS-DOS file system for volume format, but I only have MS-DOS (FAT). (Using disk utility on Mac)

Please advise wor.

Format it to FAT. NTFS can only be read by MAC but not write by MAC. Similarly MAC OS Extended can only be read by MAC but not by PC.

Use Windows to format it as Fat32 so that Mac and Windows both can read/write on it.

With NTFS, you can only read the HDD in Mac.

From experience.
