finally got the insurance cert from NTUC... declare everything i "mod". the column the provided is too small so I attached a list, total 20+ items including tyres, rims, sound systems, solar films, voltage stabiliser....and to play safe, ended with "other LTA approved modification" just in case I further "mod" my car... they dont even give me a call to clarify after receiving the "wish list"....

and how much is your quote compared to aviva if you do their online quote?

Seems like my reply is abit different from Stan. Seems like most of my mods are ok except for the Rotor and Struts. I guess you guys better do some enquiry if you are in doubt. Now thinking to whether switch or stay but have to do it within this week.

if that's their approach, at the time of a claim, if it's not a real mod they will find something else...

eh, people bang u, you claim the other person... your insurance not involved mar..

When you bang people, Aviva will say

"We have better things to do, our duty is to collect premium. Since you are a mod car, it doesn't matter who bang who. Now this is your premium, take it back! You F off and we void all your insurance from this moment"

lol. how sure are you?

they may even say that your tyres are using the wrong offset.

1 size smaller.

dont take this kind of risk la.

maybe a cheap BnB car bang they will help you.

but if a BMW or merc does, i think they will first find "faults" with you with a 200% check and if you pass then help you. if not, return premium and you are on your own.

and what make you so sure other insurance will not find fault? and so sure that aviva will do so? just based on one letter in this opening thread?

I'm not defending aviva but to look things at perspective, it seems like all other insurance company have become so good while aviva should be avoided at all cost.

I'm not defending nor against Aviva.

Their track record clearly speaks for itself.

Other insurance companies might have their problems too. Buyers beware, as usual.

For those who are happy to be with Aviva, make sure you do not have offending "mods" to protect yourself or at least make sure you're able to strip it down quickly before the surveyor comes during an accident. :D

Just wondering will Alibaba void insurance if we are speeding?

I mean we speed from time to time (exceed posted speed limit).

Hmmm..

Bigger disc rotor = better braking

Strut bars = better stability

Both IMPROVE car response in an emergency.

So Aviva considers these improvements as undesirable/unacceptable modifications for which they will void their policy if you don't remove?

They are barking up the wrong tree...

It's not the car (or the modifications), it's the DRIVER(S) that cause accidents, and the guilty driver may not be the one driving the car with the improved rotor and strut bars.

says a lot about Aviva...

I think Aviva is just operating like a business in all sense.

It takes a simplistic view that any mods is considered dangerous, unreliable and greatly increased accident risks.

It does not care, if your big brake kit will brake better. It does not care if your strut bar will help you corner faster.

They are all lumped together and simply considered as mods...and high risks.

Why not put it this way. With big brake kit, struts bar, you think your car overnight become sports car and drive faster. But when entering corner, your BBK failed and you buang. Are they going to be responsible? Technically no. Reason being your BBK is tested and proven on other rides, but not the ride you are driving. Make sense? Unless you can show statistic that this BBK on your ride has save your life several times. Then, you can point to argue with them.

Can I assume u have 50 ncd?

yap, 50% NCD, toyota Vios.

actually, if got merit cert from TP, directasia will be slightly cheaper... but without it... I was quoted $800+. For Aviva, no diff whether you have merit cert or not.

I spoke with someone who worked in Aviva for a really long time (many years) and enquired about this fiasco in this thread.

Aviva does not do the actual motor insurance themselves, they actually outsource to another ang mo company as they have no expertise and experience in this area. They are extremely strict on black and white and will only go by book.

Thus in your declaration your years of driving experience, mods, particulars, spellling etc... Have to be correct, your years of experience is also very important.

They will not "give chance" and allow you to nego your way through, if you declare only driver and nobody else then you better make sure you stick by it also....
