Fastfive1 5th Gear May 21, 2011 Share May 21, 2011 Yeah. But that one didn't have the 16V engine that came highly recommended. Still, it's a very reasonably priced car. Just asking for info, if it doesn't have the 16V engine, will it still be just as good only less powerful? Haha yeah the 1993 ones are meant for a short term drive. The 1993 towards the end of 1993 are the real e200s but the engine remains the same. Most of the 1993 ones have been facelifted and some fully converted to the masterpiece edition. Yup it would be just as good in terms of reliability with less power of course. Just make sure you check the car throughly before buying because i've seen several in very bad shape. I happened to get one with a shaky right wheel that caused the steering to be shaky. But then again parts and labour are cheap provided you know where to go. Spent 1+k doing up the car. ↡ Advertisement
Limiter Neutral Newbie May 21, 2011 Share May 21, 2011 Can consider Getz 1.6A. Comes with ABS and decent room space for a hatch.
Jefkking Clutched May 21, 2011 Share May 21, 2011 (edited) Laner GLi (ABS) is cheapest among all Japanese brand of approx. S$ 24 to S$ 26K BUT Fuel Comsumption was much high. Can consider Altis of 4 years left (ABS & 2 x airbags) selling around S$ 30K & parts were cheap and easily available after market and serving as usual no major problem at all. (Brakes pads for front @ S$ 75/- set & rear brake pads @ S$ 72/- per set and air filter of S$ 24/- (Max) and 4 x spark plugs @ S$ 12/- & oil filter of S$ 6 to S$ 8/- pc. Driving Chevrolet Aveo need to re-consider as parts was not cheap and MUST got back to AD for parts replacements & may also out of stock problem (That's my friends told me). Fastfive1 5th Gear May 22, 2011 Share May 22, 2011 Would you know the FC? Will the FC be killer? I'm getting about 10km/l. I'd say that's not too bad especially when the car is very heavy and i rev the car quite a bit.
Atrecord Supersonic May 22, 2011 Author Share May 22, 2011 Can consider Getz 1.6A. Comes with ABS and decent room space for a hatch. Really? Getz got ABS? i tot it's same range as picanto, which i was told doesn't have ABS... Is the FC good for this, do you know? Am looking for cheap choice here leh... so the typical mid-size saloons (while are good cars) are above my expectation/requirements. tks...

Am quite surprised actually. Would've thought Mercs are difficult to maintain, and getting spare parts would've been a very expensive headache! Now I know different! Am driving a 27 year old Toyota which I love to bits, but keeping it road worthy has been a very time consuming and expensive affair. After 3 years of ownership, it's still nowhere near done! Friendstar Supercharged May 22, 2011 Share May 22, 2011 My car is due for scrap soon, and am thinking of getting another car. Am budget conscious and no not mind size, style or performance, but as wife and/or my dad might sometimes drive it too, am looking for a car that has auto transmission and also ABS (for basic safety concern). Old car is fine, and am thinking of the non-jap makes as cars of 4-8 yr old came in at time when yen was strong so jap makes should be more expensive? Am thinking of Chevrolet Aveo. Is that the cheapest car that comes with auto and ABS? Anyone has any advice on this? Much appreciated. tks. lancer GLX (CS3) nissan sunny. confirm safe choices
Friendstar Supercharged May 22, 2011 Share May 22, 2011 Hi there, I'm a self employed person running a school stall. Would like to own a car. Would like to ask for anybody help if I would like to buy a "kangoo" that is within my budget of less than 10K per month. Do I need to pay tax? And if I dont, how do i buy them than? And can I still get a car that is less than 10K for my daily use of buying of my school stall stocks?? Anyone, can pls help me?? 10k per month can get u a ferrari F430

What about these then: Nissan March - COE till 2016 Hyundai Atos - Till 2018 These 2 conti choices may seem extravagant at first, but look at their depreciation figures! They actually even cheaper than Jap/Korean cars! But of course will be more expensive to run on a day-to-day basis lah. still, can consider though. The Merc's got a nice interior. Merc 190E - Till 2019 E34 5 Series - Till 2019 But the scary thing about owning any one of these 4 cars is th extremely low COE value. Meaning that should anything untoward happen (touch wood!!), you'll get back almost nothing on the car! Also, the best insurance you can get for COE cars is 3rd Party Fire & Theft Only. In other words...Dirve Safe!

Am driving a 27 year old Toyota which I love to bits, but keeping it road worthy has been a very time consuming and expensive affair. After 3 years of ownership, it's still nowhere near done! Nope it's super easy. Sometimes easier than japanese cars. There many of them on the road because parts are easy to find and most of the parts don't break down that easily. I thought it'd be hard to find parts and the parts would be costly, but it isn't. There is a reason to this, the parts have been mass produced due to the large number of W124s around the world. By the way i managed to go without changing the engine oil on this car for nearly 40k km. 27 year old toyota? are you the one who owns the AE86? Well i thought that parts for it would be relatively easy to find and the parts which your car is using is similar to the other toyotas around. Talking about parts being interchangeable, this applies very much to the W124 hence its easy maintenance.

Well i think the only thing that will make these conti cars more expensive in the long run is the FC but if one were to consider safety, then conti cars are the way to go. Both of the conti cars you've listed have disc brakes whereas the hyundai and the nissan have drum brakes.
