Expertz 1st Gear May 21, 2011 Share May 21, 2011 My brother in law bought altis 2 years ado at 55k. Recently when he wanted to sell away his car, the dealer offer 62k. Still making money after 2 years of using his car. The resale value of altis definetly higher than elantra. (Somehow, his tomyam car almost every three months need to get repair at BM due to different tom yam problem, but the resale value still very good le). Decide it for urself. i believe the profit is due to COE and not the car itself 2 years ago an impreza can be bought for 50k with a 2k COE, now you'll find imprezas on the market now for 55k and above doesn't mean imprezas are good cars, they are still very much shitty ↡ Advertisement

Yun10 Neutral Newbie May 21, 2011 Share May 21, 2011 two weeks ago, i almost confirmed on elantra. Last min I went to test drive the altis. I felt the difference. The sales person at hyundai told me elantra is more powerful.. 6 speed.. more horse power. But then, I still prefer the drive in altis. Perhaps the handling is better for elantra. Heavier feel with elantra. To confirm, I went back to test drive elantra again. I test drove it 3 times in total. Both car. altis cannot compare to elantra in terms of gadgets, etc.. altis is a little out dated i would say. Everything seems cool with elantra. But as i looked more at elantra and altis, i see the big difference in material quality. Everything starts to look kinda cheap in elantra as I see it more and more comparing it to altis. Forte's material seems to be better. The door feels very different when i close it too. In the end, I choose altis. I chose basic over high tech. No start stop, no keyless entry, no electric seat, no opening of boot from remote, etc.. just plain simple car. Just wanna say, must test drive it to know it. I almost went for elantra cos it's new, cool and more powerful on theory. After trying and looking at it a few more times, I chose another cos i prefer the drive. You are going to drive it for a few years. Most impt is you like it. Not others.

When i test drove the car, i saw the key being the same as suzuki swift.. only two buttons. so I asked if the key is exactly what I will get. Then I asked if this means that there will be no remote boot release. My sales person said yes. Maybe 1.6 don't have? But if have, i will be happier... cos my expectations were set to have no boot release.

Hosaybo 6th Gear May 22, 2011 Share May 22, 2011 I think law of diminishing returns applies as no of gears go up within the normal speed range of 0 to 120km/h. more gears = more efficiency due to the more spread out gear ratio. Design is important as well and not only the no of gears. It largely depends on the type of car-whether sports, comfort soloon etc With more gears, the shift have to be smooth....some cars can detect the frequent shifting (up and down) and this is not desirable. In summary, a gear box is not about the no of gears only.

Woah, a 2011 car using drum brakes? sgcarmart details might not be accurate. for example, they listed airbags for elantra as 4 when in actual fact there is 6. best is head down and take a look to see what they really offer.
