Before u say anything, this isn't me. It's a cousin of mine who asked me the same qns (he got a few offers) and is considering one.

The pay he's offered is: $3900

My cousin's bkgrd:

- Good AU Bachelors and Masters in Marketing and Economics, respectively. Not distance learning.

- Pretty good results: Average 3.5/4 GPA, but no honors cos AU deg no straight to honors.

- Less than 1 year working experience

- Age: 30

Job is in public sector. One grade above entry level. But I can't rem wat grade exactly he told me. I can ask him again if it's impt for u to make judgement.

Is this considered a good or bad offer judging from what he has to offer the org?

I told him it shld be avg, but am unsure cos I'm doing business hence not familiar with wage expectations. So told him I'm not 100% certain. What do u guys think?

your cousin should have stayed and look for a job there... work a few years, get a pr.

this can be his 'backup', whether he'll use it or not eventually.

should things turn for the worse, like many foreign talents, he can still go back au.

He should come back and join the grassroots. Work 7 years then can enter Paliment with entry pay of $15k. Althought is consider low for a start, but if 10 years later can become minister then will be one the highest pay politician in the world.

Is this the highest offer your cousin got? If the job is in line with his experience, then might as well take it. Pay is good - but then again, can't judge from my personal experience too, cos I'm engineering all the way (always lower pay compared marketing/econs!!! [bigcry]) And he has Masters, too - thus maybe that's worth something extra.

Better still if this "public sector" job offered to him is permanent, and not contract basis. But don't expect easy life though, as some departments are very "chiong" type and may be doing legwork for the bosses till evening hours.

wah... suddenly got many people looking for jobs and asking for opinions.

for your cousin's situation, masters for 3.9k is definitely not high.

but he has only one year of working experience, which only possible to fetch maybe 4k plus on average.

what i can suggest is to accept the offer and spearhead from there and then.

as for GPA, no honors, no talk.

Your coz should go overseas for a yr, take a vacation for 12 mnths, change his name to PRC name, change passport then come back here and apply for the same job with the same qualifications and he will get above $8k per month starting pay and allowance coz he is a FT and has "international exposure".

Er this only works because its a public sector civil service position....in the private sector its back to what he can actually do and his actual proven abilities.

I take it that he's working in a role similiar to what he graduated as. In that case, 1yr for him sounds reasonable. I have seen people lower than this.

So I guess the general consensus is that it's not high, but reasonable for his qualifications and experience la? Anyway, I may have gotten some facts wrong.

He told me the offer is around 4k. It's econs research. Not 3900. My bad

I'm a bad cousin. Nv pay attention.

But since amt of 4000 not much higher than the 3900 I said initially, I guess

most of u guys' assessment will not change?

So I tell him most ppl think it's not high but just reasonable?
