3 As and a B+ not good enough for NUS Architect course.

My daughrter cried when she received this unsuccessful letter from NUS sometimes this week.

Its was always her dream the moment she took up this course in ITE 6 years ago.

She put in alot of hard work and also TOP her ITE course with Merit of Ward for Outstanding Performance.

The day when she told her lecturer of her results...he said " Go for your NUS" as if there is not a doubt

that she will surely be admitted.

 

Not too long ago..IIRC 2009 ..a guy wrote in Today Forum pertaining to his unsuccessful admission and found out that the Uni. base on a certain criteria of 'O' Level + Poly/JC weightage percentage to be qualify.

Was this not a similar case to my daughter now?

 

I would like to know if any forummers knew the CUT-OFF point for this course in NUS.

Any feedback or suggestion will be very much appreciated.

My frd bro GPA can get to uni from poly, he oso failed.

Err... ITE cannot go direct to NUS leh. since last time, ITE go to poly then head to NUS. which lecturer is that??

She went to ITE and top her course. Then went to Singapore Poly and got 3A and a B+ but couldn't get into NUS.

 

TS, she's fighting with a lot of FT so it's no surprise she couldn't get into NUS. Furthermore, the % of diploma students that got into NUS/NTU is very small. Most of the local places go to A-level holders 1st then diploma holders.

 

She'll fare better overseas.

feel sorry for your daughter.

 

I think for NUS, if one do not have good academics, tough to get in. I am sure they don really regards ITE as higher education.

 

limited space is confirmed due to the invitation of oversea students to come and study by Pig A Pig. yr daughter is a casualty of her own country's policy.

 

if can afford, go oversea get a angmo country degree lor, anyways, singapore companies fancy oversea cert more than local cert, though NUS is ranked among one of the highest in the world.

it is not about CUT-OFF point actually..

 

there's a certain number of seats.. if they say CUT-OFF point is GPA 3.0 and above.. they will consider everyone in this criteria.. there after, they further split out the % like Poly/JC/FT/Overseas application etc..

 

 

that's why sometimes people get GPA 3.6+ cannot even get a seat.. it very much depends on the cohort..

Sorry NUS Architect course is only open for applicants from the following groups:

 

1) Elite Segment with reasonable results (1A and 1B and 2C-s or better)

 

2) Invited FT applicants who have successfully passed the stringent tests set by MOE

 

3) Children of NUS benefactors who have substaintially contributed to the coffers of NUS

 

 

should there be excess positions open, rest assured that NUS shall consider the following,

 

 

4a) Exceptional Singapoeran students with a brilliant academic record, a glowing testimonial and high moral standards

 

4b) Above average Singaporean students whose parents are,

 

i) alumni of NUS,

ii) earnning higher than $25k per month in combined salary

 

 

NUS reserves the right to amend, change or drop the course and it's entrants in it's entirety, to select the successful entrants at it's sole discretion and to reject any applicants NUS deems unsuited for the course, regardless of merit.

its not that.

 

its the "stereotyping" by u know who that those who go JC are the more academically inclined thus should get the places.

 

another reason is. Diploma can find job coz u are specialised+got Industrial attachment experience.

 

A-level is general and no experience.

plus i remember they only open very small % of the whole allocation for local student to poly nia.

Good grades do not mean can get into any course you want. Chen Show Mao also same same, remember? Medicine faculty rejected him even though he was top of his year's A-levels cohort.

 

Be disappointed by all means, that's natural, but to think there is any 'entitlement' because of grades, now that is wrong.
