astc80 Clutched September 11, 2018 Share September 11, 2018 Hi all, can the prius + 3rd row fit an average size adult? And does the recent recall affect prius +?
Streamium70 2nd Gear September 12, 2018 Share September 12, 2018 Hi all, can the prius + 3rd row fit an average size adult? And does the recent recall affect prius +? size is similar to Wish but 3rd row a bit smaller. My daughter who is 1.7m, can sit behind although it is definitely not as comfortable as the 2nd row. astc80 Clutched September 13, 2018 Share September 13, 2018 size is similar to Wish but 3rd row a bit smaller. My daughter who is 1.7m, can sit behind although it is definitely not as comfortable as the 2nd row. Thanks for the reply! Presumably there is still a bit of leg room for her at the 3rd row? How about the electric battery? One concern for the battery is that after years of usage, it will lose its efficiency (i.e more charges require for the same amount of output, similar to handphone battery) and since it is not damaged and just normal wearing out, we won't be able to change the battery under warranty, then the FC will have been a lot lower right? Actually, when does the switch between electric and petrol comes in? After 70km/h? If the car is full pax, will it require a lot of hard pressing on the accelerator? Thanks in advance!

Pls drop by BM and check it out. The Prius wagon looks really old compared to other hybrids, which is true anyway considering its been ard since 2012. Just becos it wasn't an official import all these time doesnt mean its a brand new platform. The dash and instrument cluster seriously showing their age. Cluster is single color and the fonts are too small and cramped too many info into a tiny monitor. Pure digital readouts are very 1990s things. That Nintendo game controller steering wheel is cramped full of awkward looking buttons. The buttons markings are very faint and often get washed out under strong sunlight. Climate control is just a simple single zone type. No REAR aircon vents, much less vents for the 3rd row. And being an official import from BM, the Prius wagon came with many equipment deleted as usual. Just see the entire row of blank plastic switch cover on the right of the steering wheel. And below that it was supposed to be an integrated ETC reader for JDM. Since ETC has no use for export market, Toyota could have turn that slot into a normal card slot or something, unfortunately Toyota used a piece of plastic that looks like a covered ETC device to block the slot, which render that space totally useless. 3rd row space is ridiculous. The Prius wagon was designed as a 5 seater initially, 2 tiny seats were added some time after that. There is no useable legroom over there at all. The space is sutiable for babies or people u hate only. Front seats size are more suitable for smaller JDM people than big sized people in this part of the world. U feel like siting on the seat rather than in them. And for such an expensive car, it doesn't even have power seats, much less heated/cooled seats. Modern safety features eg Toyota Safety Sense suite is not installed either. The biggest no no is the gigantic central console where the batt is located. It is so big that it takes up entire central console space. YET, it offers virtually no storage compartment in there! Just 1 round cupholder front n aft each. And the sole covered compartment so small and shallow that u can only put a phone there. And why would u want that cover your phone as u drive ley? Go look for other brands of hybrids if u can. Hyundai Ioniq high spec is cheaper and significantly better specs and more powerful than the Prius wagon. The design is way better too Else if u die die have to stick with Toyota, do consider the Toyota Voxy trio hybrids from PI. At least they are real vans and much better designed than the Prius wagon. Price will be similar too. Specs significantly better too.

Regarding PI, totally have no clues on the various possible issues and hassle. I am open to brands, just that budget is limited and the only available few 7 seater for my price point is Prius+, Carens. Guess these are more on the smaller side for 7 seater. Personally I find the prius+ kind of overpriced that's why a need for opinion from others.

And even if u do, how often will all 7 seats be used at once? A proper 7 seater mpv will never be small sized since u need enuf cabin space to put 7 seats. So dont kid youreelf into believing a wagon with 2 extra small seats can offer the kind of rear room space as a real mpv. Will a 5 seater station wagon be suffice? Can u ask pax 6 and 7 to take grab? The Koreans these days don't even put japs brands as their ballpark. They are going after the Europeans n american makes..both of which lies on a higher plane of engineering and design innovation. Do check out other cars and see for yourself. Do plenty of test drives n see what you can getbfor your budget

Pardon my ignorance, so the Korean brands are getting more reliable, no issues for repair, safe enough and value for money? Do google ard and u will get your factual ans instead of sales talk answers here. Consider this. Hyundai grp joined the hybrid world rather late in the game. Yet their first mass produced dedicated hybrid model Ioniq ended up being better designed, packaged and offer better perf than toyota could with their Prius..and Prius nameplate has been ard since 1997. U see what i mean?
chonsiew 2nd Gear September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 Has just taken my Prius+ and able to reconcile with the expectation. 1. My family of 5, average height of 1.7m found comfort in all 3 rows of seating. Leg room, head room and cooling are adequate. 2. Had clocked 200 Km in the last 3 days and average FC was 4.6 L/100 Km, not very great but within the expectation. The transition of hybrid modes during the drive is smooth and unobtrusive, most of all it was quiet, much quieter than my previous Qashqai 1.2T (The Qashqai is a reasonably quiet car). 3. My suggestion is to ignore the hybrid system and just drive the Prius+ normally. With a lighter right foot, the Prius could return a quite impressive FC. 4. Well, with 20 years of good track record, Prius+ is hard to beat except, she is just not pretty.

chonsiew 2nd Gear October 1, 2018 Share October 1, 2018 4.6l/100km = 21.7km/l. That's very good in my opinion. what were you expecting? Could achieve better FC if the electric motors can sustain a cruising speed of 80 Km/h on the flat but... ICE always kicked in at 75 Km/h. I think it is hard-programmed that way because of body weight.
chonsiew 2nd Gear October 1, 2018 Share October 1, 2018 My friend just discussed with me on his wondering choice of owning a true hybrid, Toyota Prius like I do or for a full electric, Hyundai Ioniq. I simply asked him 3 questions: Q1. Do you own a fast charging point at home or is there possibly to install one? If no, Do you have access to all the possible charging points around the island? Q2. What would you do if you have another 20 Km electric reserve and your friends or family suggest a detour that need another 10 Km ... Q3. Do you drive to JB or Malaysia? That explained why Toyota is going slow on the full electric - the infrastructure to support EV is simply not there yet.
