wah ncmp only 1.6k niah, cheaper than the accounts assitant my company hired.

Unlike the cabinet ministers (including ministers of state), whose jobs are deemed full-time, MPs and NCMPs are not full-time jobs.

Thus, MPs and NCMPs can retain their civilian jobs (no need to tender resignation, or early retirement one).

Thus if an MP or NCMP is a CEO of a company and sitting as director on sevaral boards, he may still well be earning >1-2M/yr!

i understand the difference in job nature and time spent and did nto call for them to be paid all equally if you catch the drift.

i used the MM concept of SENSE OF PERSPECTIVE to bring up the point. the current level of perspective base on the salaries each class of parliament member is drawing is that NCMP is not important at all.

sitting in the same parliament you have

1) ministers earning $300,000 per month ... but that's their full time job (they could have been earning even more, before they became a minister ... e.g. surgeons Ng Eng Hen and Vivian etc.

2) MP earning $15,000 per month ... but this is only his part-time job. He could be a CEO and sitting as director of many boards and probably earning on par that of the ministers.

3) NCMP earning $1.6k per month ... ditto comment on MP above

this is also the sense of perspective i am calling for, to put people with so starkly different remuneration on the same table to discuss matters, is never gonna be effective.

I can agree to that ... but only if the ministers were to also keep their previous jobs (and we know that's not possible).

Then the difference in remuneration will become stark, when you put everyone around a parliamentary debate.

How can we attract say, a world-class heart surgeon, earning millions of $$$, to give up his job just to become a cabinet minister?

Unless he has that special "acumen" to want to serve the needs of the populace, with humility and selflessness, all for the progress of the nation.

in the first place, i don't thik a world class surgeon would make a good Minister. whether he is a good MP also remains to be seen.

The opposition were during the rally mentioned how the seniors were rejected at the work interview and all sorts. So now WP is also overlooking their senior and giving priority to the younger folks.

During election, I think Eric Tan when giving a interview said he was very confident about the NCMP position but alas.

Too many leaders spoil the soup.

What is going on behind the scenes we will never know.

But having met Yaw before, his style and attitude I don't really like, also avoid questions and abit proud before elected, although end of the day, their proposed policies makes some sense and more median.

I personally rather liked Kenneth's economic and judical proposals.

So if the oldest guy serving in the conmpany for 30yrs is the Tea Lady, and the post of CEO is vacant, she should get it ??
