um, nope - thats not what i said (see previous post)

Im curious why they didnt employ locals

without knowing the reason or circumstance then jumping to the conclusion that locals are being ignored in favour of FTs is premature

It could be

1) few locals apply (as is often the case due to low unemployment

2) few qualified locals apply (can be a vicious circle - how to get experience?)

3) locals want high salary

4) Overseas expertese/specialist knowhow is needed

I dont know the reason based purely on the OP - and neither do you.

which is why we need to ask questions

You don't know what is happening? Ok let me tell you to open up your eyes and this is real case that have happened in my work place, a big MNC.

A department head need to get a new hire and there is a recruiting company that these handles all these recruiting matter. So this department head told one of his relative back in his town home to send his resume to him and he secretly forward the resume to the recruiting company personal who handle his case. He told the recruiting company personal to add another 3 - 4 resume from anywhere and submit as official potential candidate for the position. From there normal selecting process continues and it doesn't need to say who got the job. In the company point of view, every process was official and there is no dispute of unfairness by the department head. This have been practice across the board in Singapore which is one of the reason why there is sudden open of flood gate for these people to come in.

FT have been in Singapore for a long time, a lot of them have already promoted to department head and all of them, if not most of them, have changed the personal working under them to be one of their own. Do you think if this go on, is there any hope for local to find jobs?

We already know that there could be another recession coming, question is when come to head count cut, who will get the chop? You already know the answer!!

fully agree with you about the protectionism thing and the "we need workers, not ft" reality. problem is, many people see things from the perspective of their own immediate interest, and think that they should be accorded protection else the gahment is not good. shallow and short sighted mind-set i say.

too bad this is a democratic country. If it isnt, they shldnt have elections in the first place, then nobody can complain. But because they give me the right to complain, complain i shall.
