RC, CC, CCC & All Other Cs Didn't Detect Ground Resentment?

It is still a big mystery to me till this day that the ruling party apparently did not detect the so-called ground resentment until it was GE time.

The latest admission came from PMO Minister LHH who had lost her post as a result of being ousted from her Aljunied GRC. She was the latest office bearer who revealed this in a press conference today. Almost every of her cabinet colleagues had already sounded caution of this wave of dissatisfaction of the government just before & after the GE.

The part that puzzles me is that the ruling party MPs serve as advisors to EVERY SINGLE WARD & he or she has an army of helpers, grassroots volunteers & leaders from RCs, CCs, CCCs & whatever Cs to assist him or her in the course of their ground advisory work. These folks apparently also serve as the eyes & ears to alert these MPs of anything that happens on the ground.

I mean no disrespect to these selfless individuals who took time off to volunteer their service to the MPs on a regular basis.

Question is: WHY IS THE RULING PARTY CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY THE GROUND RESENTMENT?

Hear only the good things. [:p] Class 95.

On a serious note, no excuse for MP elected not to be aware of the ground sentiment given that they do held "meet the people" session on a weekly basis. My take is that PAP chose to be blind and not to listen, least to say response to its citizen. All along we are merely receiver of info(gov policy) rather that the source to collaborate /particpate in the processing of info (gov policy).

This is the result of an arrogant government return to power uncontested. [thumbsdown]

hear only the good things.. gold 90.5

u know the kind of pple who goes to MPS to meet the MP? most are needy folks who goes there to get favours or to get something done eg. fines waived, money aid, appeal for their kids, application to jump queue for HDB flat etc

actual MPS should be to raise issues to the MP for them to speak up in parliament..not for those small things like the above [;)]

Good quote at the end [thumbsup] [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

I guess these volunteers & helpers are no longer giving "3-more-new-citizen-families-move-in-last-month-to-blks-1-2-3" or "many-residents-enjoyed-the-$10-island-wide-market-trip"-type of information to the advisors but in fact maybe giving frank assessments of "That-fried-kway-tiao-uncle-from-stall xxx-increased-price-by-50cts" & "Many-residents-worried-IRs-may-lead-to-social-problems"-type of genuine concerns from the heartlanders to these advisors.

Question is: Are all these grouses channelled upwards all the way to the decision makers or does these get cuts off somewhere along the way?

I think its not true that they din know about the resentment at all. In fact from what I can see, they have anticipated certain levels of resentment which is why they have actually kind of delayed the election for quite a while. In fact SM Goh mentioned just before the election that the "ground is not sweet". The MIW also have people helping them to keep a lookout for online sentiments and it is a fact that there were various voices of dissent on the internet for quite some years alr which I doubt they do not know at all. Its just that they know but perhaps din know that it is to this extent.

I think you literally save the ruling party time, effort & money to gather extensive feedbacks or hold many closed door meetings to analyze the GE outcome by your excellent summary of what exactly went wrong.

Just like my company.

The middle mgmt likes to collect DATA. So whenever Top Mgmt ask for info, they have the ready DATA to show them.

The Top Mgmt after seeing the DATA and found the revenue is Good and satisfied.

But they don't even know the bottom staff all overworked, underpaid and recently cut away OT claim to boost the bottomline.

Sadly most of the staff that can leave already left, others all stuck between a rock and a hard place.

The Top Mgmt gives Middle Mgmt good bonus and the Middle Mgmt gives 13 month to bottom staff + Alpha of max 1 more Mth.
