Aiya, so what?

Life goes on, Singapore will continue and the earth still revolves.

No one is indispensable lah.

Anyway, read this and you will understand. I got this from an email.

Earn enuff for the rest of her life and her children.

DO MINISTERS RECEIVE 50% OF THEIR LAST-DRAWN PAY FOR LIFE?

You friend is wrong about 50%. It is actually as high as 2/3rds. The Parliamentary Pensions Act provides that "office holders" (which means "Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Speaker, Senior Minister, Minister, Senior Minister of State, Minister of State, Mayor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Parliamentary Secretary or Political Secretary"). If you closed your eyes and threw a stone in Parliament House during a Parliamentary sitting - assuming if, and it is a big if, that everyone attends (which is never the case. Parliamentary sittings are lucky if 50% of MPs attend!) you will hit at least 1 or perhaps 2 with the stone ricocheting PAP chaps entitled to pensions.

Anyhow, back to your question. The Act has a formula for payment of the amount of pension. You start with a numerator of 8 (meaning 8 years of service as office holder) and add 1 for every year of service after that. You divide this number by a fixed denominator of 27, and you stop when the number hits 2/3rds, which means that anyone who has 18 years service will hit maximum pension. The amount that is due to him FOR LIFE is found at section 4:

4(2) The annual amount of pension payable to an office-holding Member shall be

Ministers are now drawing more than $2million per annum.

Thus, their pension is at least $1.3million per annum.

Oh no ... like that gotta find some taxes to raise already.

Imagine feeding these voted out/retired ministers and another sum to pay for the new FA minister.

And that goes for Georgie too. For him (M of FA), I think his remuneration will be even much more.

Moreover, his wifey is a partner in a law firm. Good on him man!

So why even work?

Sit back and relax. Tour the world!

yar, heard her wife doing not bad as a lawyer. How I wish I could sit back and relax when I reach 50+ in a few years time, too bad it will never happen [smallcry]

wao lau......I also fainted after reading all these.... [knife]

My blood pressure rising and feeling faint too... ...

There is no reason for us taxpayers to be funding their pension. Why should we???? We paid them well enough during their term and that money is more than sufficient for them to retire. GY is 57. Assuming he lives to 85 and assuming conservatively he is drawing 1.3m pension like what bros here said. Then that $36.4 million to pay the guy. WTF!!! We appreciate what the guy has done but that amount is ridiculous.

Minister Lim Hwee Hua will not contest GE 2016

Singapore's first woman Cabinet minister Lim Hwee Hua has announced she will not be contesting in the next General Election in 2016.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, 52, plans to take a break and is not ruling out the possibility of returning to the finance sector, where she spent the early part of her career.

She will continue contributing to women's issues and is optimistic that there will be another full female Cabinet minister soon, reported The Straits Times.

She described her 15 years in politics as a "reasonable stretch" and said she will leave it for someone younger to contest in the next GE as she will be 57 then, reported Channel NewsAsia.

Minister Lim, who is also the second Minister for Finance and Transport, was part of the losing People's Action Party (PAP) Aljunied GRC team that lost their seats in Parliament in this year's polls. The team garnered only about 45 per cent of the votes against the Workers' Party.

Her announcement comes a day after Foreign Affairs Minister George Yeo declared that he will be leaving politics.

During her press conference on Wednesday morning, Minister Lim revealed, she was surprised to discover the depth of resentment against the government during the nine days of campaigning in this GE.

While she expected a close fight, she was also surprised by the outcome, she said.

Yet, the Minister said she does not believe that doing anything differently in her Serangoon Gardens division would have changed the outcome of the election by too much since it was a battle over national issues.

She said, people feel they have not been listened to enough and that the PAP makes polices based on their intellect and without listening to the people.

Blardy Pappies, kept on harping on the excuse that they will be of a certain age by the next GE.

George, Hwee Hua, i urge you not to give up so soon and continue to "serve" the masses as the national retirement age is 62!
