Bros, need advise:

I bought a 5 year old Nissan Latio in FEB this year, it has been agent serviced all this while under the NPMP Program.

http://www.nissan.com.sg/service/plans.cfm?go=npmp2

I bought it just after the last service at 47,000km

Its going to be due for the next round of servicing soon (due at 57,000km), and I would like to seek your views if the price is worth it? I am a noob in cars and not very familiar.

details of the package are in the PDF:

http://www.nissan.com.sg/service/New%20NPMP.pdf

Price for Latio is $1198 for 4 servicing, 2 years or 40,000KM which ever come first - every 6 months or every 10,000km

only worth is that works like an extended warranty..

you will get their standard.. package A + B + C + A.. total 4 servicing.. all using Fasflo syn oil..

IMHO, worth it if u don't want hassle to go run around for a workshop.. and since u are noob, u might not have any "trusted" WS of your personal choice??

back to agent for you..

just my 2cents.. [:)]

Hi,

I am driving a Sunny, so I thought I can share my 2 cents [:)] My ride is 6 years+ and clocked 145,000km. So it has gone through quite a number of servicings. I also previously drove another used Nissan till scrap, it covered over 240,000km.

Nissans are very reliable, so personally I ditched the agent as soon as the free servicings were used up. I have been sending my ride to a trusty workshop in an industrial estate. If you dont feel comfortable sending your Latio to industrial areas, then perhaps you can consider "branded" workshops that sit in between the agent's and those smaller ones in the industrial areas. e.g. Autosaver or Shell Autoserv. The former is equipped with Consult, which is a diagnostic tool specialised for troubleshooting electronic faults in Nissan cars. I am not sure if Autoserv has the same tool. Consult is the same tool used by Tan Chong. So for electronic faults that my regular mech is not able to solve, I will send my ride to Autosaver. A Consult tuning only costs $25.00.

Here's the packages from Autoserv http://www.shell.com.sg/home/content/sgp/p...icle_servicing/

Based on your current mileage, your ride will require 2 minor servicings (70k and 90k), 1 semi major (60k) and one major (80k). If you consider Autoserv, it comes up to $600++. Of course the service items shown for major car servicing is not complete. You will likely pay for additional items like belts, aircon filter, etc. These are not shown on the Autoserv table. So the total could come up to 800~900 if you choose Autoserv. This only leaves a 200~300 gap with the agent's. So for peace of mind, you might want to consider taking up the package with Nissan.

After you gain more experience with car ownership, and if you are comfortable sending your ride to industrial areas will you want to consider those smaller workshops.

Hope this is helpful.

Yeah, I noted in the PDF right at the bottom that:

"Any other repairs, labour and material usage not stated are excluded from this "NPMP" and will be chargeable to the customer."

http://www.nissan.com.sg/service/New%20NPMP.pdf

Those with "check" will likely incur additional cost.

Those with "change", "top up" and "replace" are included in the cost.

Well, I will try out the last remaining 1 service left over and transferred to me by the previous owner (just got him to transfer to me, cos he changed another brand of car anyway) and see how it goes first. [:p]

Update the bros here after that. ^_^

NPMP i think got premium in the package. so long u comfy with the premium then please go ahead.

but i encountered previously that if the item is not spoilt or worn, even when mileage is reached they wont change the item not sure if this is still the same practice.

and not all parts are covered.

btw 5 yr old latio at 47k km is really very low mileage!

NPMP is good. No more paying after the first payment.

The only problem is, have to live with the fasflow oil, which is so so only.

If yours is CVT gearbox, it might be better to let TCM service them.

Twincharged

Mine is manual Sunny, 5 years+, just signed up for NPMP. After the warranty free service expired, I went to autosaver most of the time, only going back to TC for the major 40k.

Estimate that NPMP is more reassuring and worthwhile, when car is older, e.g. about 5 years or more, or over 100000 - 120000 km, and stuff like brake pads, belts, etc. start to wear out. New car not so worth it to sign for NPMP.

Nevertheless, some of the other parts not in the NPMP list that malfunction, leak or crack still will be charged extra if you opt for replacement. They will consider it as "repair" charges.

So sometimes it's just your luck whether NPMP will save you money or not. I would still recommend it if your car sees heavy usage, long drives daily, etc.

One of the conveniences of sending to TC is that on some days of the week, your car can be collected in the evening hours. A great convenience for some of us who cannot suka-suka leave the office to do errands during the day [laugh]

Autosaver is pretty reasonable in their pricing..

i went to the one at Toh Guan.. asked them to fit my RHS Head lamp (i bought from stockist).. labour only $20..

install horn.. labour only $15, and they did free troubleshoot for me after installing the horn..

all before GST...

another one can try is AutoAid..

they are in Toh Guan also.. same row as Autosaver..

I personally recommend the NPMP. It covers certain parts like brake pads etc including labour which it definitely worth it. You know they know their job well and it gives you a peace of mind. I personally bought the NPMP after my free services were used up.

A little more premium? perhaps. FYI, I was driving VIOS previously. Major servicing (40K km) done at outside WS cost me >$400. Maybe I feel like a carrot but it was recommended by many bros driving VIOS. Hence I seriously feel that the NPMP is quite a value for money package.

not cover all items subjext to terms & condition during NPMP Program .. i was a victim before though cover every things...

front & rear brake pads can only be changed as deem necessary by TCM mechanic. CVT oil can only change at 100k interval. Same for Latio spark plugs..

Not exactly true. You need to point it out to your service advisor and most likely they will replace it. One of my friend complained about his cefiro engine vibrating (a < 3 years car). They changed all the engine mountings out of goodwill.
