Gst 10% soon

Recommended Posts

Soon it will be raised to 10% ... just a matter of time niah ...

after GE !

lots of fats can still be trimmed without raising the GST. are the people in charge thinking hard enough? their penchant for taking the easy way out is certainly undesirable.

Guys, I just want to point out this: GST might not have risen to 10%, but there are other "invisible" taxes that eats into our spending power, in a similar way as would a GST hike result in.

Consider the increased PARF for vehicles, 140% and the 180% on higher OMV vehicles.

Consider the (recently) increased fuel tax.

Consider the (just last year) increased alcohol and tobacco tax.

Yes, while anyone can argue that this does not affect non-drivers / non-smokers / non-drinkers, the invisible taxes still eats into our spending power as a population.

Those are luxurity tax. I support.

i think govt need to define what is a minimum standard of living per person per year. let say it is $1000 per month, $12,000 per month.

the first $12,000 should be totally GST free. GST (lets say raise to 10%) rebate of 10% should be given in the form of a tax rebate to all payers. the more dependants you have, the more rebate you receive. The cap of the rebate will the tax the person is paying. this effectively catches those jokers who earn a lot of money but declare less tax.

You missed out the VEP (just last year).

I probably missed out a few others too, but I think you get my drift..

I'm neutral about those, just pointing out that while GST wasn't increased directly, there are other indirect (also consumption-based) taxes that were increased.

I support that, but pretty sure they wont. Else there would be many defined as poverty class.

Dont look nice. Not good for image. Will invite a lot of overseas questions & locally.

Will also give opposition something to put across difficult questions.

Then become 1) Elite, 2) Upper, 3) Middle, 4) Working, 5) Poverty

Poverty & No.1 GDP is awkward.

Basic necessities should be tax free.

Products like rice, oils, salt, etc with generic brand should be tax free.

Imagine now at 7%, a low income household with $2k per month, that most likely would spend all the amount, is paying 7% for everything they spend, the $300 GST rebate is effectively a 1.25% off the 7%, which may not be sufficient to help this families.

issue a pioneer generation NTUC supermarket card, discount pegged to prevailing GST? i.e GST 7%, get 7% discount...

maybe it will depend on the prevailing coe. Now property transaction has gone down and so has stamp duty which account for a sub amount of revenue. if coe also go down, the gov got to find money from Other sources.
