You are a highly paid minister, u are expected to know budget stuff, not to do fire fighting. If you are not trained to balance the budget, fm start you shud have asked an expert to do it.

Everyone seems apologitic these days.

He even say now that he is wrong with his legendary "3 meals" comments.

MM Lee must feel pissed that George Yeo commented that PAP popularity take a dip after MM Lee "repent" comments.

Machiam show hand now for the PAP.

If what we read on our 154 rank ST is true, many people are swaying their vote in PAP favor after the "apologetic remarks"

Apology means admission they are not as good as they potrayed themselves lor. Remember, they apologize they still drawing million dollar salary while voters wl still be left high and dry.

Nothing mention on those volunteers who received a packet meal of rice with only 6 small pieces of 'long bean', a few crown of corns and a small piece of meat ............:ph34r:

The 50-year-old, who heads the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), insisted that his team "did not overspend or waste or squander" the S$387 million budget allocated to the project. In fact, he proudly declared that they spent much less.

>>>>SOLID A-Team logic! This reminds me of William Hung....I already gave my best....I have no regrets at all

He explained that the games exceeded its original budget of S$104 million by three times because it was the first time that such an event was organised and there was no other model for reference.

As he said, no other model for reference. Then how was the initial S$104 million budget derived and how/on what basis did he initially approved it? Was he looking at his pay slip at the same time and thus a bit distracted?

On 5/4/2011 at 11:42 PM, Latka said:

He revealed that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong then asked him if he would have bid for the YOG if he had known it would cost more than S$300 million.

To this, Dr Balakrishnan said that he would still do it, and had no regrets.

You can bet that if the opposition did or said this, there will be no end to the putting down by PAP about folly, recklessness, etc.

On 5/4/2011 at 11:42 PM, Latka said:

"Whatever criticisms, I am proud of the YOG and of the athletes, proud of the 50,000 volunteers who made great sacrifices to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime event," he said, acknowledging that people are entitled to their opinions.

That has absolutely nothing to do with blowing the budget. In fact, if not for the 50,000 volunteers, the budget would have been blown even further out of orbit.

Change the goal posts and then now say he scored. If you set the high jump bar on the mat, I also can go over.

The leader of the Holland-Bukit Timah GRC team reassured Singaporeans that the increased budget did not eat into the other expenses of his ministry.

"The YOG had a separate budget and we did not cut back on the other expenses for MCYS."

Even if the YOG had a separate budget, the money had to come from somewhere. If it didn't come from his ministry's budget, it came from somewhere else. Wherever that is, it is taxpayers' money.

Overspent by more than 3 times. Not over by $10 to $20 million lei...over by $200+ MILLION!! And where did the YOG get us in the end? He's proud of it eh? Proud of what exactly ah? Proud that 50,000 staff worked for free or what?

Sometimes, I really wonder where all that money went to ya know. I was stationed at the Youth Olympic Village at NTU, most of the infrastructure to accomodate the athletes were already in place. They only had to decorate it, get catering for meals, charter buses for their transport, print material like maps, brochures/banners, and provide miscellaneous knick-knacks for the comfort and enjoyment of these athletes. Alot of these goodies were also sponsored. Like the Samsung handphones, the clothes, waist pouches etc...

Will we ever get to see an itemised breakdown of these costs?? [:|]
