Mona-vie 1st Gear May 2, 2011 Share May 2, 2011 I think its due to cost and perhaps space constrain but the heat in the engine bay is rather bad for the batt. It shortens the lifespan. I am now spending time and $$$ to relocate the batt to the trunk so the batt will last longer. But need to lay cables.... :( ↡ Advertisement

Mona-vie 1st Gear May 2, 2011 Author Share May 2, 2011 Battery very cheap only what.. just replace every year or 2 lar.. Move it to the boot?? So troublesome.. Battey cheap meh? It cost me $170 for a Varta Silver batt. I would want it to last as long as possible. Anyway, I finally finished the job. Took me 3hrs ripping out rear seats, part of the carpet etc...... NightWind 4th Gear May 2, 2011 Share May 2, 2011 u r right its due to costs, the same reason why they make front wheel drive cars over rear wheel drive as its more expensive to put drive shaft to the rear. Most continental sports cars (BMW) place the batteries in the rear also for better 50/50 weight distibution. Of cause if they can put the whole engine in the rear it would be better...:} I think its due to cost and perhaps space constrain but the heat in the engine bay is rather bad for the batt. Mona-vie 1st Gear May 2, 2011 Author Share May 2, 2011 thats why you go all out of the way to save $$ for battery Yar, I know you guys are rich and money is not an issue. Most of you own branded stuff and drive big cars etc. But I do not belong to the same league as you folks. I am poor so I need to save whenever I can. Mona-vie 1st Gear May 2, 2011 Author Share May 2, 2011 Wipers lifespan also very short, next time remove it when not in use? Well, I replace just the rubber strip of the wiper instead of buying a brand new one and I don't rely on wipers much.......
Mona-vie 1st Gear May 2, 2011 Author Share May 2, 2011 TS, Just curious, how long more can the battery last by transferring it somewhere else? It depends. IF you buy only branded batteries that cost $500-600 a piece, it shouldn't matter. But for me who only get cheap batteries, the heat does affect the lifespan. MTRAC Neutral Newbie May 2, 2011 Share May 2, 2011 (edited) It depends. IF you buy only branded batteries that cost $500-600 a piece, it shouldn't matter. But for me who only get cheap batteries, the heat does affect the lifespan. Ok noted.... your batt $170, mine only $110. So I was thinking how much longer can we use if we were to shift the batt to the boot. This is compared relative to the amount of money and time we spent doing the shifting. Secondly, the boot area would be compromise as well... Edited May 2, 2011 by MTRAC ↡ Advertisement
