That's provided Ms Slyvia Lim quit her current position as Chairperson to elect herself as a potential presidential candidate.

Why do people in Aljunied or Singapore in general have to worry about George's future?

He's entitled to pension now as he passed 55 last year - while still serving as the Foreign Minister.

Meaning, he's drawing both salary and pension at the same time.

How muc he's drawing per annum is anybody guess, but with the annual income of $2.6 mil p.a., he won't need to beg on the street.

brother, sylvia has not served in any of the following positions before

minister, chief justice, speaker, attorney general, chairman of the Public Service Commission or permanent secretary, chairman or chief justice, speaker, attorney general, chairman or chief executive officer of a Statutory Board or of a company with paid-up capital of at least $100 million.

so she has no chance at all leh.

if you look at the way the criteria is set, you will realize the government is only pretty keen in letting ex civil servants or minister become Elected President. we know the motivation very well.

I have the same thought. If he has the interest of the people in mind and in his heart, it doesn't really matter where he is. Surely PAP being a big organization, it must has a place for him.

Whether or not, he should run for presidency is a completely different issue. President's job is to hold the key and question the govt on the use of reserve. Qualification aside, is he really that appropriate to be one?

Regards,

Ya lo staying back in a ward & always kena MPS where residents constantly tie him down with unpaid parking/utility bills, fines, neighbourhood squabbles, etc...Really a waste of talent if you ask me.

He is of high calibre & should be destined for higher office such as the President's Office.

So the conclusion is...

GEORGE YEO FOR PRESIDENT!!!

Am sure all will happily accept the guaranteed $4m windfall every year even if they are from "opposition" candidates. [laugh]

Singapore PM's salary stuns White House official

A senior White House official back on Tuesday, April 10, 2007 admitted he was floored by the news that Singapore's prime minister earned five times more than then US President George W. Bush. "I'm going to emigrate and run for office in Singapore," the official said on condition he be identified only as "a senior administration official who sits in disbelief after reading that story."

Who gets what (without performance bonuses)

President Nathan, a Japanese collaborator during WWII.

Worked for Kampetai

(Japanese intelligence)

Flash! SINGAPORE, March 11, 2011 - Parliament has approved an increase in the President's salary which is now S$4,267,500 (US$3,355,270), an increase of S$890,700 (US$700,302).

Singapore's current President, Nathan, was a member of the dreaded Japanese Kampeti (uniform, sword and all) the secret police during the Japanese occupation of Singapore.

Singapore Prime Minister's Salary $US2.47 million, or about six times more than the U.S. President, who currently takes home US$400,000.

The monthly pay for a Singapore Member of Parliament (who does virtually nothing) is S$12,000 (US$8,600 ) per month or S$144,000 (US$103,200 ) per year tax free.

Note: At age 55, Singapore Ministers collect both a salary and their full pension.

United States:

President Barak Obama: US$400,000, with US$50,000 expenses

Vice President Joe Biden: US$202,900

Cabinet Secretaries: US$157,000 - $186,600

Secretary of State (Hillary Clinton) - $186,600

United Kingdom: Prime Minister: $US279,000

Australia: Prime Minister: $US229,000

Hong Kong: Prime Minister: $US516,000

Japan: Prime Minister: $US243,000

Canada: Prime Minister: $US246,000

Germany: Prime Minister: $US303,000

France: Prime Minister: $US318,000

In addition to their inflated salaries,

the Singapore elite gets extra pay as appointed company directors!
