Please do your homework and realize who was pro casino, who was pro FT before you blindly offer support for the candidate. It is not so much what the candidate can or cannot do. It is what that candidate represents. Now that the truth is said of the Powers of EP. I don't really care anymore who becomes President. I did read up the negative comments about him... If he is genuine about the donation to a charity of his choice or even his own foundation at least that is probably the only thing that benefits the public. The rest are ceremonial. Since the powers that be have been stressing lately about the exact role of the EP under the constitution, I guess many of us, myself included, who have had high expectations of this office have to cool down & face reality. Now that it is quite clear what he or she can or cannot do, it is really not much of a concern to me frankly who holds the office eventually. To this lay man here he or she would just be another chap drawing multi-million salary annually & showing up in NDP year after year until the next term. LINK To my dear Friends and Supporters .by George Yeo on Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at 9:51pm.Over the past few weeks, many Singaporeans have urged me to run for the Presidency. This is a major step which I could not rush into. I thought over it long and hard, consulting not only colleagues, friends and family members, but also taking in the advice and views which many of you conveyed to me in person, on FB, by mail and email, and through friends and relatives. After considering all factors, I have come to the conclusion that, in this phase of my life, I can better contribute to the Singapore we all love in other ways. I have therefore decided not to run for the Presidency this August. It is not a decision I take lightly. I know many of you will be disappointed but I ask for your understanding. I will continue to work with you to make Singapore a home rich in memories and full of hope for the future.
