I Cried During Chiam See Tong's Rally Speech

Yes Bro. It seems that many Singaporeans have indeed waken up from the long slumber.....including myself.

Yeah! That's good to know. Before the rallies started, I was really indifferent to anything to do with politics. My stand was like que-sera-sera, just let it be lah, no use fighting them, they're too strong. Was numbed by the ruling party's oppression. Resigned to Impotence. This is exactly how they want us to be.

But a friend of mine quite literally forced me to attend a WP rally at Bedok, and seeing the sheer number of people in attendance, felt pride for the first time in a long time at being Singaporean, and being able to vote! Once in 5 years, we are actually more powerful than the FTs! Since then, I realised how important my vote is to the future of this country, and have surprised myself by watching almost all the speeches on ge.sg  Haha!

A Mass Awakening. Sounds like history could be made next week! [nod]

This round, a lot of heavy weights joined the opposition band wagon. They are highly-successful professionals (e.g. Dr Ang, Dr Vincent, Mr Tan, Mr CSM etc).

These people could have taken the easy path by joining PAP to become ministers.

They are not doing so. It is all about passion for our country!

Dr Ang was a frequently invited guest to the morning TV show on Channel 8.

I am wondering if Dr Ang lose this election (as an Opp party candidate), would he still be invited to the TV station to share his medical knowledge?

Me too. Actually, I void my vote in 2006 by being overseas cos I too dont see the point in voting anymore. But this time round, Yes Bro, felt pride being a Singaporean. Mass Awakening indeed.

HeeHee! Yeah, in '06 was super bochap. Still, I did the right thing lar. Not out of anything other than spite really. This time round, it's different. There's passion, there's courage, there's strength in the opposition, and a real need for change!!! [bounce1]

SINGAPORE IS FOR THE PEOPLE OF SINGAPORE.

TO ALL SONS OF THIS SOILS!

Be without fear in the face of your enemies. Be brave and upright, that God may love thee. Speak the truth always, even if it leads to your death. Safeguard the helpless and do no wrong; that is your promise and rise a knight... A knight for a new country. A better country. A country of conscience...

"He counted very carefully. 1. 2. 3...5. Only 5 O levels?" (another round of laughter)

"How many of you have 5 O level?"

My best friend shouted "I don't have any!" as several in the crowd raised their hands.

Mr.Chiam smiled in his heart (I could feel) and replied,

"Then you and I are the same. And I have become a lawyer now."

At this point, the crowd cheered so loudly that a friend who was sleeping on the other side of the estate was woken up by the uproar. After a round of hearty laughter, the crowd fell silent as Mr.Chiam continued speaking (he apologised in the beginning that we have to be very quiet because he couldn't speak loudly). He told us that it is o.k if we are not as smart as the others, and it is o.k if we do not seem as successful as the others. Some of us maybe late bloomers, but all of us have the potential to be better people, as long as we stay true to ourselves and keep trying.

That is really inspirational, I hope people can learn from this. Having good grades doesn't mean a thing at all in life; I'm the best example [laugh] . In life, you just have to take it easy and life is always unfair.

He could have just retired peacefully with his current state of health, but no, he still chooses to stand up to what he believes in.

"I am actually not a brave man, but i love Singapore, and i love Singaporeans..."

Compare this to Lui Tuck Yew's kindergarden story of tall trees and mushrooms, and let your heart decide.

Fcuking rubbish story comparing themselves to trees! End up super self-pawned judging by the comments -_-

Based on my understanding, the TREE refers to the PAP.

He actually asked us (the people) to PROTECT THE TREES (PAP government).

Shouldn't it be the other way, the government should be the one protecting us, not the other way.

They want us to vote for them (the tree), so that the tree's multi-million dollar salary can be protected?
