Singapore, don't be a Cowardly Lion!

So brothers and sisters, when you vote next week, take heart, have courage and above all, use your Head.

We do not look at where the person is, but where his heart is

by Chen Show Mao on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 9:51pm

A Secondary 3 student sent us these pages from her Higher Chinese textbook.

I wonder if the Minister of Education has read the textbook?

Chapter/Lesson 13 of the Higher Chinese for Secondary Schools Textbook 3A (published by the Ministry of Education) answers most if not all of the Minister's questions on Show Mao's motivations for returning to Singapore.

A copy is of the chapter is uploaded (Scribd in the link below). Below is an English-language translation of some passages in the chapter:

Original Copy in Chinese can be found: http://www.scribd.com/full/54317478?access...eaecayefk2q7u1n

------------- English Translation -------------

In this day and age, it would be impractical to wish to keep our own talents cooped up in Singapore. An insular country will have a worrisome future since it will lack vitality. Just like the great eagle that aims to fly a thousand miles, it is natural for those of our countrymen with ideals and ambition to leave the country and showcase their talents on the great international stage.

It is those select few who will build the bridge that connects Singapore to the world. They are the valuable treasures that the country should cherish.

If a professional can return and share with his countrymen his outstanding achievements overseas... then it does not matter where he has been. He is a patriot, because he has a burning love for his country.

To determine whether a person loves his country, we do not look at where the person is, but where his heart is.

"we should take care of PAP constituency first, right ? "

i think this is very dangerous thinking. as a leader with this type of thinking will split the people into two camps.

Did he really say this crap?

Does he think it is correct for someone to buy flat at 30 years old, repay the loan for 30 years. By time he is age 60, CPF OA has no money only money in SA and medical account. Then start working from 60 to save for retirement?

Whoever started CPF in 1955 before PAP must be rolling in his grave.

You example is buying a flat at 30 years old.

My fren is now 35 years old. He just settled down and wan to apply for flat. Plus 30 years loan, he already 65 years old [shakehead][shakehead]

"Well, I'm running the election, MM Lee is expressing his view. But my view is this an important fight." PM Lee, 01.05.2011

"What mistake has he (George Yeo) made? You can take a minister and criticise him for not delivering on perhaps housing (Mah Bow Tan) and transport (Raymond Lim). Like Wong Kan Seng you can say he let Mas Selamat escape. George Yeo, what has he done to deserve this? And he is a core member" SM Goh . 02.05.2011

" In every election, we try to go for a strong mandate.

In the first election, all the more it is important to push for one. But I would like to ask Singaporeans for as strong a mandate as possible this time, too.

Not for me personally, but so that the team can have a mandate to do work for Singaporeans and serve them well." pm lee. 02.05.2011
