...& I was next to you! [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Haha jokes aside it was electrifying to be amongst your fellow countrymen supporting a cause. [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

The nearest feeling would be back then cheering our national soccer team in Kallang stadium when we were in playing the various Malaysian teams especially those from Pahang or Selangor.

Will probably give the coming a miss due to the expected crowd and probably watching the rallies via YouTube uploaded by bros.

who knows... i might be really next to u! [laugh]

Yeah, the next closest would be the Malaysia Cup matches in 1994 where everyone stood shoulder to shoulder as Singaporeans!

Supercharged

I think the closest sounding dialect to Teochew is Hokkien.

I may be wrong but I dare say none other dialects come close.

Anyway nowadays many Singaporeans are educated unlike our parents' or grandparents' generation so speaking in either Mandarin or English is good enough for them to understand.

But of course speaking in Teochew and speaking it fluently which most Hougang residents feel comfortable with will be one big advantage for any by-election candidate.

yep speaking the same dialect scores on emotional points. is an advantage although not overwhelming one.

I cant see any good reason to support the PAP. We have strong growth in GDP but y are there more resentment among the people. Why many of Singaporeans are under paid, y are we under more pressure instead of enjoying better standard of living. Why are we subject to abuse of foreigners even at our homeland. What is this is my country this is my future this is my life. With the current pricing of HDB, how can average singaporeans afford to own a flat and not worry about retirement. What is the PAP doing then. Any good reason to support PAP? Please advised.

"for education, they make citzen pay the same but raise the price for PR, it doe snot make citizen feel special but it makes the PR feel lousy!" [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]

Ah Huat is good seah.

I think this election got a lot of high quality opposition new candidates.

So far, I haven't seen a convincing PAP new candidate.

When Ah Long said cannot find good enough candidates, maybe he meant they don't know where to look?

When Lau Lee said the overnight MP (don't remember his name), is good, so & so, & he is president scholar & straight A, you must question they selected best student or best candidate?

I don't even put my school results in my resume anymore. If I am to put my academic result, or tell the interviewer about it, I know I sux during my years of working, & still need to use education achievement to land a job.

I believe him IF he really wanted to find them.

He also said many years back when he entered politics: only U-graduates can reperesent his party. He is only interested in academic qualifications like the Imperial Examinations in ancient China that failed the country/dynasties repeatedly. Hence the corruption he breed unwittingly perhaps (at least 4 ministers corrupted already).

HG is a teochew town...so a teochew candidate will be more suitable.

I believe a mentally matured person is what we need. Not just any schoolboy for learning through mistakes. I wonder if the schoolboy learned his mistakes or still learning to repeat his mistakes?

haha i know, but how many % are old voters and how many % young?

think the demographics definitely have changed the composition of voters wanting teochew speaking. i will also be surprised if desmond can speak eloquent teochew. if he is a teochew that cannot speak decent teochew, there is no advantage to speak of.

+ speak as schoolboy?
