Perhaps you may find your answer in this letter below: -

An open letter to MG Chan Chun Sing

As told by one ns man...

I received the news that you are contesting for election when you

were introduced as one of the final batch of PAP candidates for the

upcoming election. I was not surprised because high flyers like you

are always destined for big things. You are not the first military

personnel turned politician and certainly not the last. I always have

an interest in observing how military personnel made the transition

into civilian life. One of the ways is to watch their speeches and

public appearances. Now that I have already ORD and you are no longer

a top brass in the SAF, without the fear of being punished, I want to

be honest with you; your speeches were exactly the same while you

were in the SAF and I wasn

they do listen but not 100%

why?

because if it needs to go through so many levels before reaching the top

then the message might be lost or disoriented halfway through

studies have shown that only 70% of the original message will be correct and another 30% will be lost or disoriented if it were to pass from one another

so if there were 5 level of communication

level 1 receive 70% of the original message

level 2 receive 49% of the original message

level 3 receive 34.3% of the original message

level 4 reveive 24% of the original message

by the time it reach level 5 listener, only 16% of the original message go through

I have served under some good commanders in NS, who are the non-scholar types, who are in touch with what the lower ranks feel.

I remember that there was a problem due to some regular's incompetence when I was clearing my admin on my ORD, which made it not possible to collect my pink IC. When the commander of my unit (a full colonel) walked passed and overheard the problem, he stepped in and ordered the clerk to give me my IC first, and told them to sort out the problem in their own time.

I am so thankful I still remember the incident after 15 years.

However, I must say that my encounter with a scholar general left me unimpressed. He didn't care and he wasn't afraid to show it.

That too left me with a lasting impression.

Those generals should educate their leaders that now in 3G army you don't scold and theaten to get your men to execute orders. Being high handed is so old school. You should explain goals and motivate your men.

Solider will be better to be left out of civilian role

wonder if he were to become the foreign ministar since ah yeo might not be in the team anymore and he will likely to tell Romanian to hand over that murderer or else i will send in my tanks
