I must post this to allay any fears of freaks results and explain in simple terms as to how our Parliament and Voting System works...... bear with me... this question was asked by one of my friends just this afternoon and I was surprised that he did not know how Parliament works and how the Vote system is in Singapore, which we call our country, our home....

One of my friends asked me over lunch,

Okay, I must say that I am not a supporter of the incumbents..... but if there are any fears of freaks results, it will not happen.... we must let them know that they are not as popular as they think....

denying them 2/3 majority is sufficient for now.

Pls..there are no freak results.. All results are a result of Singaporeans making their choice!! Its the people's choice, not freak results..

Not necessary. If the all the opps parties can win more than 44 seats, they can form govt if they gang up together to form a coalition party, that is they want to.

TS is correct.

Even if all the opposition parties combined won all their contested seats and formed a coalition(which I seriously doubt will happen at this point of time), they wouldn't hold enough seats to form the government.

Vote opposition, so that they can raise motions on bills passed.

With more seats, they can question, check and balance with more effectiveness.

Having 1, 2, 3 opposition members in parliament is like having a NCMP talk for you. NATO coz no power.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!

My answer to this is, (I copied the below from a post I wrote somewhere else)...

on the surface, the opposition may be in co-operation, but you must know, there are different idealology and personality clash amongst the leaders. Chiam See Tong hates Chee Soon Juan, I think most Singaporean knows the reason why. Jeyaratnam hates Low Thia Kiang, because Low kick his father out of the Wroker's Party. Even now, you can read reports of one person from this party jump ship and join another and so on and so forth. There is no opposition unity.......

To me, being able to kick out shameless, unrepentant, redundant MPs/Ministers is a victory to the Opposition.

Wah rao....that one victory for Singaporeans already. Not only opposition. Only one group stand to lose.

Don't you feel that the act of fear mongering is really down right distasteful? They already got the upper hand for crying out loud. Can't they just show some finesse and display some style?

Neutral Newbie

You are absolutely right. Why are we talking about proportion of winning seats here to stay power. That is not the issue of this GE.

The loss of 1 GRC or more is considered a great result liao.

Imagine 15 supposedly-unpenetrable fortresses and suddenly one is overcame, despite all the odds. [cool]

the reason is there is a misconception out there that if WP win all their seats then PAP will not return to power and thus we are doomed,.... but that is not the case.... so we have to clear this misconception... there should not be any worry if the PAP lose a few GRCs and SMCs as life will go on as normal, exept that there will be more voices in Parliament speaking for the people.....

Actually this British Parliamentary System is an unfair system that we have to live with......

Don't worry, his aircon office will still be 1st class. Not to mention his job will become senior advisor while MBT become PM, GCT become Minister Mentor and LKY become Grand Minister.
