Chengwh492 Clutched April 25, 2011 Share April 25, 2011 (edited) Powerful and touching message from a lady in Nicole Seah Facebook. I almost cried when I read it, so help spread the message to all your friends and families. Once upon a time this country had a soul, our people had dignity and our politicians had a conscience. Now it is all about money, our country's icon is a casino, and our politicians are not paid enough even though FIVE times overpaid than the american president, and the promise of something better morphed into the nightmare of unaffordable housing and escalating cost of staying alive. All this happening even as the politician allow vultures in form of foreign talents feed on the carcass of our swiss standard of living. Til today, they said this day will never come. They said our sight were set too high. They said we were daft and mere mortals! They said this country's young and old are too ignorant, too delusional to ever come together for a common purpose. But on this day, we have come together when the PAP say we can never do. We come together, regardless of races, language or religion to stand up and say that we are one Nation, we are one People, we have enough of PAP's nonsense and our time for CHANGE has come! In this election, we are chosing hope over fear. We are sending a powerful message to the PAP that Change is coming to Singapore. We believe that hope is the bedrock for the young and old of this nation, the belief that our destiny will not be written for us by the PAP but by us, the People. By all those men and women who are not contented to settle with the mess created by the PAP, who have the courage to remake the country as it should be. Nothing will withstand the power of the million of voices calling for CHANGE for Singapore. And that is the message, regardless of young and old Singaporean citizen, that we can Change this country for the better. So, sons and daughters of this soil, remember, in this election, you are not voting for just your petty difference or your own well being, but your children and children's future to have a real stake on this country. A stake in living in our land in harmony with each other, a say in the parliament on just and unjust laws, a meaningful life and the ability to retire with dignity. All these can only comes with the People's voice to be effectively represented in the government by real politician who are not greedy and have a conscience. Your choice in the coming election will be key. Spread this message to all your friends by all means of communication. Together we can make the Change. Spurman Supercharged April 25, 2011 Share April 25, 2011 Why do we have to get so bitter about the casino and the ministers' high salary? For me, its not only about their obscene salaries, its about them being justified to be paid that kind of monies? If I am a towkay, CEO for a company, and if I make a terrible mistake or my guys made a huge hooha, I tink I will be sacked... I think even though if I am paid millions a yr, but I think I can be replaced anytime if I am performin poorly and worse, if my own company lose money, I cant even take much salary, or maybe being made a bankrupt... Wong cant seng, Marbolo, and many more of these so called leaders, tell me what good have they done??
Ah_tee 2nd Gear April 25, 2011 Share April 25, 2011 (edited) Why do we have to get so bitter about the casino and the ministers' high salary? because all the hard work they been teling us to do , study hard and work hard but end of it i duno where the fruits of labour go to, as they said it, true that singapore has turned from a malay fishing village to a first world economy. i believe we have achieved what we set out to do n made a name at least in south east asia but do u get the rewards ? no... i am not talking about monetary rewards, i am talkin about affordable housing and enough money to retire. now they turn their back n tell us to go die in jb, we expect too much, and since you all refuse to have kids. we will get FTs to replace u. actually given the state of singapore, i believe we can afford to slow down a little, jus a little to give the pple some space to breath. they jus gonna milk u dry but who's laughing to the bank is a different matter altogether. Chpeck Clutched April 25, 2011 Share April 25, 2011 Becos they are not solving problems despite their high salaries.... Malaysian Ministers' pay are low but they allegedly make over RM100mil in just one term and I believe this happens to most countries in this world. Do you really think that the American President earns so little? Don't you think the car ownership policy is even more upsetting?
Poper 2nd Gear April 25, 2011 Share April 25, 2011 Why do we have to get so bitter about the casino and the ministers' high salary? 1. Casino destroys people's life.. what we saw/read on news are just tip of the ice bergs.. If you look at the # pawn shops and classified ads "financing" companies since Casinos opened, you can judge what kind of impact they have on our people. Did the Casinos really create many jobs? Yes, to a lot of foreigners 2. Obscenely high salary is not only unjustifiable, it simply erode the very core value of serving one's country. Even a "peanut" of $600K is already dream-pay for many many people. Yet, we have PMs advocating 20% to 30% pay increment on top of their million $$ salary?! This is plain day-light cheating of Singaporean to me... Ministers are never equal to CEOs of companies; CEO is there to make money and gets axed if don't perform for even one year. Ministers are there to serve people and best part, it's a five year iron rice bowl somemore.. (5 x $3-4M = $15-20M btw).

Do you really think that the American President earns so little? Don't you think the car ownership policy is even more upsetting? I am not sure if our ministers whose salary are millions are also making millions on the side line doing other business like directors, own companies doing bidding for government tender and so on there is no little transparency that only hardworking netcitizens could did out information like i did not know that wong kam seng was related to Lees

Do you really think that the American President earns so little? Don't you think the car ownership policy is even more upsetting? Paying someone $3-4M a years does not guarantee no corruption. It's just an assumption.. The whole idea of paying obscene salary to justify "no corruption" is already moral "corruption" to me. Remember the SLA officers who corrupted S$12M last year? Should we increase top civil servants' pay to $1M a year to avoid corruption in future? And we will increase the pay at 20% per year to ensure no corruption. Ministers should be paid a reasonable amount ($500K, $300K or whatever) and plus pension after X terms; With the right governance process and structure and alterntive voices, we will deter corruption in our government. If anyone chose to take the corruption path, the law will deal with them. period.
