"Hyundai Motor Company plans to expand its turbo engine family with the introduction of a brand new 1.6L T-GDI turbo engine. Based on the existing 1.6L GDI four-cylinder engine which currently propels the Korean market Hyundai Avante, the unit uses a twin-scroll turbocharger which improves the engine response and performance. At the same time, the turbocharger increases efficiency at low engine speeds, improving combustion efficiency and lowers emissions.

The 1.6L turbocharged four-cylinder engine generates 208 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 265Nm of torque. The output puts the power plant on par with the VW Group's 2.0 liter TFSI unit that goes into the Golf GTI and Audi A3 models. According to Hyundai, the all-new 1.6L T-GDI turbo engine will be available in the new Hyundai Veloster sports coupe starting from 2012. Going forward, it will also appear in the upcoming 2013 Hyundai ix30 and next generation Kia cee

208bhp is nice for 1.6L but the rpm for it to come in.. is abit too high.

also, they didnt mention what rpm the torque comes in?

nevertheless, kudos to the koreans for making more exciting engines.. rather than the plain old 1.6L NA.

useless if they put it into sonata. Now, gimme this engine in a GETZ with RWD and LSD... ok i am daydreaming now

my former ride used to be a getz.. really nice ride despite 1.1 liter only.

i bet if the local AD priced it right, it will be selling like hot cakes IMHO.

the max bhp comes in so late? the max torque at wat rpm huh

FYI the Mini John Cooper 1.6T with 211hp also comes at 6000rpm... The best thing of turbo is the torque from 1600-5000rpm...

Peak Hp usually near readline. My peak Hp also around 6500.

Its torque that determine the drive feel, & the G-force. For fuel economy & responsive, you want most of the torque to be available at low rpm range.

WOW....Exciting days ahead for cars.

At the trend goes....most 1.2, 1.4, 1. so called family cars will be considered 'performance' cars by 90's standard!

I like!

Cant wait for my Jazz to be 'old' for replacement!

BHP is direct proportionate to TQ in relation to RPM, high BHP at high RPM, means also have high TQ at the specific RPM, no good??

A 1.6L twinscroll that can extract 208BHP at 6k RPM with a low 1.5k RPM max TQ is very impressive, my ride almost had another extra 1L, at the same RPM only get 300BHP....... to be able to drag from 1.5K to 6k RPM, how I wish my ride able to do that........
