Why are we still afraid?

recently, i heard my uni educated friend saying vote can be traced (got serial number) and may be punished.

 

so many ppl coming out to join opposition with impressive caliber, cv and jobs, why we are still afraid?

 

I fear this fear will play an important role in this election.

The irony of their logic: if indeed PAP is a good and caring government, then all the more PAP shouldn't be doing such witch-hunting. So, they will vote for PAP because they are scared and not because PAP is good?

both WP and PAP say that voting is secret. so, whichever poison you prefer, you can rest assured that you can vote for your fav party

 

please don't undermine the democratic process by spreading such rubbish (tell your "uni educated" friend)

 

anyway, as a graduate, i think little of the university education in itself. it's what the individual takes out of it. but then again, the school of life does far more than any university can in those short 3-4 years

cannot be traced lah.....all votes are in sealed boxes (before and after counting) and will be burnt to hell after 6 months. Both sides will witness

all procedures.

My manager from another country was so surprised when we told him that election is compulsory in Singapore, and there is a serial number on each voting ticket. He say no wonder the ruling party always get so high percentage "support" because voting is not secret.

 

Just my feeling that this coming election we might see some unexpected results, I hope.

Sealing of the boxes are witnessed by both parties till it's burnt. The purpose having serial number can be found in election department website. It's more for if theirs any dispute by any party, they will open the box to ensure the votes tally.

the fear is from the olden days when pple are uneducated and un-informed..these group of pple spread the fear to their offsprings and so on..and its also due to those coffeeshop talk that it propagate

that ad with Byran from Mediacorp on how to vote, do you think they purposely zoom in on the vote advice slip, with the serial number displaybigbig, on my 46" LED screen???

 

Bryan should have explain the rationale for the serial number, i guess not.

that is why it is the duty for the YOUNGER generation to educate the older folks. I spent a lot of time last election assuring my parents that voting is secret and nothing bad from result from voting against the PAP.

I have voted 3 times and each time for different parties, including PAP and 2 other opposition parties SDP and WP and I am still fine. We are just small fry. So I dont know why people have this fear. So even if the vote can be traced then so what? Anything wrong with voting for the party that you want? It is our right and we are exercising it. If PAP punished those who vote against them then all the more PAP cannot be supported.

 

I think people must understand the meaning of democracy. We can vote who we want to and at the end of it, parties respect citizens' decision. And it doesnt mean we must be diehard of one party. Thats not how democracy work.

the UK also uses the serial number system. tell ur manager to stop being a frog in a well.

 

we didnt create the system by ourselves. we not that smart also...

The issue is not about whether your vote can be traced, but rather, whether it will be traced.

We need more people like you.

 

Majority of voters of the 60's & 70s were not as educated as the voters of today, and they were easily influenced and misled by all kinds of rumors and talks. It is really sad that voters of today are still worry about the serial numbers on the voting slips that they are so afraid that they will be traced if they voted for Opp despite assurance given by both P@P and WP that voting is secret.

 

This will be the 10th GE for me. I din get to votes in all the past 9 GEs due to many walkovers for the P@P. To be frank, I have voted for P@P in the 72, 76 GEs, reasons being P@P of those days were really people's party, the old guards of P@P were politician with passions and desires to serve the country and the people, but I am doubtful of the current generation of P@P candidates. Going into the 90's, the party has drifted away form the commoners and move toward elitism, so when there is a chance to vote in the later rounds of GEs, I make sure my family and I voted wisely. Bear in mind that you get to vote once only every 5 years, do exercise your right as CITIZEN of SINGAPORE, cast your vote wisely and rightly.

Yah tell your friend to be very afraid. The next day after election ISD will go his house search and send him including his whole family to Whitley road camp...
