Singaporeans and PRs belong to the same group now....

It has been together for a long time...........and I don't think MOM will ever release figures or percentages of PR vs locals.

i'm also keen to find out how much the workers, foreign and local are paid. it's one thing to be employed, another thing to be paid well enough to afford a decent standard of living.

I wont refute the fact that foreign companies set up shop in Sg create employment. But to what extent Sg are being employed is questionable.

Foreign banks: how many Singaporeans occupy the senior managment team? how many Singaporeans fill up the IT dept and even finance?

If u go to Jurong Island and look for engineers ( not technicians ) how many Singaporeans are there?

Lets not talk about foreign companies. Even our local companies owned by local bosses and family members, they even hire foreigners to fill up the IT and Accounts. Does this mean our local univ and poly cant produce enough of quality graduates to fill up IT and Accounts role ?

To substantiate my view, u just have to ask HR personnels and the hard truth shall be revealed.

I watched both the ang mo & chinese news.

I am very sure PM said on tv that 2/3 of the managerial & professional positions goes to SINGAPOREANS.

He did not say Singapore residents at all.

Here is the web page:

Go to the Razor video and take note that at 02:55, he mentioned that 2/3 of the managerial & professional positions goes to SINGAPOREANS.

Unless the word SINGAPOREAN nowadays in the RP context includes both citizens & SIngapore residents, I have nothing to say.

Then again see how his speech on this is mentioned in the same web page(highlighted in blue with sized 7 font for 02:55 portion) :

Foreign workers help create good jobs for S'poreans: PM

By Cassandra Chew and Chua Hian Hou

FAR FROM being disadvantaged, Singaporeans have benefitted from good jobs created by the Government's policy of allowing in a 'controlled' number of foreign workers, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Thursday.

The policy has also attracted foreign investments to Singapore, said Mr Lee, speaking at the official opening of IMFlash's US$3 billion high tech electronics plant, one of the biggest electronics investments here.

The Woodlands plant, a joint-venture between technology giants Intel and Micron, currently employs 1,200 staff.

IMFlash's managing director Chen Kok Sing said the plant, the only wafer fab in Singapore to produce the memory chips used in many popular electronic items like smartphones and tablet computers, will have 1,500 staff by next year.

In his speech, Mr Lee noted that six in 10 of the employees are 'Singaporeans and permanent residents'. Singapore residents also take up two-thirds of the managerial and professional positions, he added. For every one foreign worker, we have created 1.5 local jobs in this project,' he said.

'Without the foreign workers, we would not have attracted this US$3 billion investment, and Intel and Micron would have built its wafer fab elsewhere. But by allowing in a controlled number of foreign workers, far from disadvantaging Singaporean workers, we have created more good jobs for Singaporeans,' said Mr Lee.

The Government's foreign worker policy could emerge as a hot-button issue this election as some believe that it has hurt residents' job prospects and depressed wages.

Take note at the 02:55 part bro ^_^

Nvm, I help you quote what he said

"IMFLASH Singapore employed about 1200 workers

in these workers, 6/10 are residents (Either Singaporeans OR PRs)

The other 4/10 are foreigner workers"

"Technician & manufacturing jobs 2/3 are foreign workers"

"Managerial and professional levels 2/3 are Singaporeans"

Concentrate on the bold ones

Cheers

Concentrate on the bold line (which I have highlighted) you mentioned as well.

Unless the sentence construction is some type of new Engrish or my Engrish teacher just couldn't drill into my thick skull last time, I fail to see how, and I quote "But in the managerial and professional positions, 2/3s are Singaporeans" from his speech can mean the same as "But in the managerial and profesional positions, 2/3s are Singaporeans AND RESIDENTS".

What a failure I have been in terms of Engrish... [:(]

Thanks for pointing out bro..

You know... I agree... the foreign talents do help our nation grow...

only problem is... the quality of the "foreign talents" nowadays.

In the past(80's) i still remembered when foreigners came to Singapore to work - they are really specialists in their field.

nowadays these talents want more $$ money but less work than me!!

this i cannot accept.
