Bluepica 4th Gear April 21, 2011 Share April 21, 2011 My ride on is on GR80 since day 1 till now it's already 45k... I'm not sure is it time to change. It's still as soft and as quiet. Gripping good or not, actually I really dunno how to test or feel. If its time to change new shoe, I would like something similar. The GR80 was bought at $85 3 yrs ago and now GR90 cost $145 That is almost double the price of GR80 Anything similar performance but lower in price than GR90? ↡ Advertisement

Beachboy7718 Clutched May 18, 2011 Share May 18, 2011 I had experienced with GR80. Change twice with them that last me only about 25-29KKM that has bad aquaplaning at about 100KM/hr on NSHW. After I decide to switch to RE001, it runs just well after 15KKM run. I sold my car then and do not know how long it wears. As my back two stock tyres surface chipped out with few spots (Recently rotated after 23KKM) and worry its danger (some spots are about 10 cent size). It is Toyo transpath tyres. I am not sure what cause it? Maybe hitting some holes? Because of it, I start to search for tyres. I came across with GR90 from Autopac. Quoted $380 for 225/50/17. See the rating is good for wet grip. Seems that the trade is totally different from GR80. Anyhow, I decide to temporarily change the 2 back tyres with RE001 only at $184 for original spec at 215/55/17 from Tyrepac under promotion. Quoted from outside shop for about $255. For future changing 4 tyres, hope to hear some some of your experience. Q1. Wet grip is my 1st priority due to frequent travel at NSHW, I think that RE001 still better choice right than GR90 due to performance tyre. Saw the rating from Autopac that GR90 supress RE001 on wet grip also. Not sure it is truth? If it is true, than GR90 is a big jump for comfort + good grips. Q2. As seem that GR90 is more expensive than RE001 from Autopac. How is outside quote for 225/50/17? Autopac quotes $380 for it.
Joajas Neutral Newbie May 18, 2011 Share May 18, 2011 you are talking about autobacs right? their prices are usually higher than tyre shops outside. Try to call other shops to compare prices.
Beachboy7718 Clutched May 18, 2011 Share May 18, 2011 Agree. Not hurry as I have decided to temp change RE001 for the 2 tyres 1st at same stock size. Just wonder how GR90 vs RE001.
Rncw 5th Gear May 18, 2011 Share May 18, 2011 can consider michelin PS3, good on wet and dry, a bit of noise... one thing though, when running over the stretch of road in NSH towards tuas where they have vertical strips on the road, my car swayed

Piauster Neutral Newbie May 18, 2011 Share May 18, 2011 My car sways also at those vertical lines on NSHW towards Tuas. Any idea why they did those lines?
