Unless you de-cat than most likely is O/S sensor slow in response, this one have to relocate the O/2 sensor slighty further out than the current position. Forexter 2nd Gear April 29, 2011 Share April 29, 2011 It depends on the reason why the Check Engine Light is lighted up. It can be a small issue or a BIG problem. Small issue can ignore and continue to drive, BIG issue, continue to drive, you risk BIG repair. I suggest you drive gently till you get to the workshop. Like what a brother said earlier, get the workshop to scan for error code and rectify it.

Nikelashi Neutral Newbie August 15, 2011 Share August 15, 2011 my sonata has its engine check light on every now and then, and will stay on for about 1-2 days before going off. went to the workshop and after checking, they asked me whether i went msia to pump 97. he say it's regarding the oxygen level that's why the light was on. didnt catch everything because the workshop was quite noisy. and i was charged a little "labour fee". recently i didnt go into msia and all along am pumping 95 from SPC. yet the engine check light comes on again and again. i call up komoco and i was quoted $120 for diagnosis. i'm not prepared to pay that much for a simple check. had a bad experience with my previous hyundai accent because it had the same problem. went to the workshop and spent a lot of money changing a hell lots of parts which doesn't work because the light just kept coming back on. in the end, i just left it as it is until i scraped the old accent and bought this sonata. and it's giving me the same problem! i dont want to bring it down to a workshop for them to trial-and-error again. any advise on this? or is it a common problem for hyundai cars? should i go down to komoco and make noise? If your car is still under warranty and you have been going there for your SVC, MAKE AS MUCH NOISE AS YOU WANT. From a mechanic stand-point. There are 2 types of BASIC codes, current and historical. Current Codes are pretty simple, ECU does a self-test, finds a problem and if the fault do not clear by itself, it will just keep the CEL on to warn of the issue. However, if the code is minor (which may be due to a glitch) after a few cycle without issue, the CEL will just clear by itself. However, if the code is MAJOR (Possibility of causing harm to the man or machine, even after the fault clears, the fault code will still be stored in the ECU as a historical code. $120 for a scan is pretty standard rates for AD as they use their own scanner which also reads manufacturer codes. Other workshop tend to charge between $80-100 for the same scan BUT if it's a common fault code (OBDII code), most workshop may only charge between $35-80 for the scan as they can use a generic scanner. PM me if you need more details. NOW FOR THE BOMB If the fault is an intermittent fault, it will be tough for ANYONE to solve the issue for you, even the AD so don't blame them. This is because the code is not major enough to keep appearing and is not logged under historical codes. I checked with overseas counterparts and their solution is to use a fault code recorder which (from what I know) no one has... even AD. The only alternative solution we have is to install a OBDII reader in the car and find out the problem on the go. BEFORE YOU SPEND MONEY ON ONE LOCALLY OR VIA EBAY, MAKE SURE IT WORKS FOR YOUR CAR FIRST as not all cars are OBDII compliant locally. Hope this helps, VinX

Hady Neutral Newbie September 3, 2011 Share September 3, 2011 Johnny bro, you might just wanna check if you have time. I went to a workshop in Macpherson earlier today, they analyzed that the "system too lean" and they eventually fixed it! good workshop, affordable price.. ↡ Advertisement
