Ithunk 1st Gear April 17, 2011 Share April 17, 2011 (edited) A senior investment banker, 51, noted: 'I have had politicians work for me before, and they have to watch where they go, what they say... they might have a Porsche at home, but they use a Toyota to go for Meet-the-People Sessions.' http://www.straitstimes.com/GeneralElectio...ory_657245.html CORPORATE high flyers are not willing to trade their comfortable lives for the rough and tumble of politics. In an informal poll of 45 senior corporate high flyers, 32 said No. Only three indicated they would say Yes if they were asked by the People's Action Party (PAP) to step forward to contest in an election. The other 10 said they would consider if asked, but that a lot depended on their career development and what their families thought of them going into politics. These responses bear out the lament of some PAP leaders, that they find it difficult to attract private-sector people as electoral candidates. I think it is a self perpuating problem caused by the RP's own actions in the past and present. By constantly crushing the opposition to dust via lawsuits, ISA, etc and also demonstrating a rigid, non-flexible, I am right and you are wrong attitude, and applying the party whip religiously within its own ranks - the RP has shown itself to be an evil dictator. How many people would want to give up their comfortable lives to be associated with such a political maelstorm? On one side - death and destruction as an opposition; on the other side reviled by everyone including the relatives as associating with megalomaniacs of the ruling party. Heck, better stay alive and safe out of politics. If the RP had been a fair and open gahmen fully transparent - successful people would fall over themselves to join up and be part of the solution making process. Thedream 3rd Gear April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 nothing to do with the current ruling political party, but if those in politics can only drive bread-and-butter cars, what kind of quality of people can we expect?
SimonTan 2nd Gear April 18, 2011 Share April 18, 2011 Some rumours say...he might has billions hidden elsewhere........but wears singlet under white shirt, a very old dark blue jacket and a cheap casio watch. Some call it humble.....some call it a sicko JOKE towards the public......some call it wayang. But there must be a reason why so many mere mortals are crying poor and money not enough, when in fact they own a nice flat/house and a reasonable retirement account. Such rich inside but poor outwardly traits manifest in the common citizens are truely acquired skills learned over the years from the wayang leaders. Really... and they lament that they can't get people with the right qualities. Is their HR even sure that they are on the right head-hunting track? That would be like looking for a wolf to guard your flock of sheep. Edited April 18, 2011 by Iisterry ↡ Advertisement
