Would like to find out the best way/most effective way to tune honda i-vtec powerplant, to be specific k24a. Is it via direct ecu tuning, piggyback, vtec controllers, etc?

what kind of performance improvement can be expected?

Largely depends on how much control you prefer as well as your budget. Flashpro would be a good start from overwriting values in the ECU all the way to Motec M400 which alters the signals to control the 4 cylinders. There's of course M880 but we dun need that since its for control up to 12 cylinders.

Head on over to http://www.k20a.org/ and there's plenty of resources we have for you to tap on. Search for a guy nicknamed Nikos and check out his K24A build. You'll have a rough gauge of the stuff he's got packing and the horses he's putting down :D

i Vtec has several stages of Vtec engagement compared to the Legendary Big brother B Series. If you are on a budget the apexi neo or Vafc 2 is more then enough to fine tune i-vtec.

The piggy back is able to alter the A/F ratio for fuel that is set from the factory settings which is usually very rich to optimum savings for power and better F/C to Power and the vtec engagement points.

The non scamming tuner/workshop will also need to dyno to find the right engagements points. For example when tuning a b/d series vtec. The piggy back must be programmed to engage vtec at a later time like 9k rpm and manual WOT on the dyno to find the settings/map where the non vtec lube drops in power . That will the mark to set the vtec to engage to get the max h.p for tuning the vafc for vtec. If this is done correctly when vtec kicks in in a b series you'll see that the rpm jumps from between 5k or when Vtec is engaged to 9k in nano secs!!!! Perfect!!!. I've driven a correctly tuned B series that i can still wheel spin from 4th to 5th gear. I know i left my balls at the pavement somewhere since 2nd to 3rd gear already....

Thus tuning the i-vtec has different stages to go thru.Good luck in your quest for extracting the k series power. If u have a budget get cams, springs and valves.

The power of dream.. [laugh]

lol. whose dream is that? megamind uh?

4th to 5th can have wheelspin. means is either you got a VERY close gear ratio box. or you have insane amounts of torque.

which is probably not very realistic.

the only cars in the world which i know MIGHT be able to do it are the F1 cars.

the usual hondata lor. but dun expect big difference there as in big jump in numbers. if jus do tunning only,

i think best is to expect better drivability.

wanna install turbo might as well get those TCed cars in the first place.

hmm just install 2 turbo, or a twin scroll turbo, the performance will be much better

can u control the car in the first place or not...

no point mod the car until it was too powerful for u to control... then end up in accident..

beside power... also got to consider the control (brake, suspension)

i am on a budget, so will probably start with VAFC 2 or NEO. Where is a good place to buy this plus have expertise to tune for i-vtec engines?
