Blueblack Neutral Newbie November 14, 2011 Share November 14, 2011 Totally wrong theory of engine oil from your experts. 0W50 is more appropriate one size fit all grade engine oil. yeah, but waste money if you put this in a normal NA car. So far I onli encounter engine failure is not due to engine oil, it is timing belt, water pump, rad, alternator. enginer to me is the strongest component in a car... no need worry so much... it is the rest will kong first. ↡ Advertisement
Picanto 3rd Gear November 14, 2011 Share November 14, 2011 just serviced my car and the mechanic used mobil1 5w50, although my car manual recommends 5w20 or 5w30. will using a 5w50 affect my car's fc? quickly channge to a 30 or 40 weight oil. 50 weight is a NO NO. Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear November 14, 2011 Share November 14, 2011 Wrong theory too. It is temperature the engine oil subjected to that matters. Not if it is normal NA engine or not. Example: In a place like Dubai with ambient temperature of 50 deg Celcius, I will certainly recommend at least SAE50 for any car engine.
Good-Carbuyer 1st Gear November 14, 2011 Share November 14, 2011 quickly channge to a 30 or 40 weight oil. 50 weight is a NO NO. Do not panic. Do not worry. As long as it is same 5W, there is little difference in FC for our climate. It is only when we encounter ambient temperature above 30 deg Celcius that the grade 40 can give better engine protection. Likewise, when we encounter ambient temperaure above 40 deg. Celcius, grade 50 becomes valueable.
Sforester 1st Gear November 14, 2011 Share November 14, 2011 Stick to manufacturer specs in the car manual... there is a reason why there are producers and why we are consumers. ↡ Advertisement
