Mllcg 3rd Gear April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 (edited) What are we to do then? Release him, and traffickers will make use of this loophole. Imprison him, and it means real traffickers may be able to get away. A rock and a hard place. That's where our judiciary is stuck. i never say release and go scot free. even i dont want that. a life sentence would do.(he didnt take someone's life, what right does anyone have to take his?) of course, i would still want the death penalty for murder. However based on mens rea, he should be let off scott free, or if found guilty hanged there's no in-between. I'm not a fan of taking a life, any life, but its a necessary evil. Either that or abolish it in favour for life imprisonment which may not be as big a deterrent as more people are afraid of dying than anything else. Its a slippery slope once we start making exceptions to the rule. Btw drug trafficking is not a 100% death penalty. There is already life imprisonment for cases where the amount is between the min amount considered and amounts mandating the death penalty. For the jail bits, it depends. If you're from a 3rd world are run by warlords and/or corrupt government with little to your name, jail in singapore is better than life there. And most traffickers are from those sort of countries or situations. Anyway theres no other charge for this offence. Just trafficking, and the penalties are stated clearly by law so its not open to interpretation. The only way to change it would be by changing the law. Yellow ribbon is just "lip service" or a show. It may help them get a job, but nothing that will take them out of the cycle.... P.S. Our system from what I've seen other than for addicts, is about punishment not reform. More needs to be done. Even cartel leaders can claim the same. 2) Drugs do kill.
Gusruh Clutched April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 When I was young, my late father gave me this advised which I said to my children too. You can be bad in other things, but don't involve with drug. That time I lived in Redhill. Law is still law. We are still lucky to be in a small country and the authority take action of such menace. In some country you can really see drug addict on the street suffering for supply.

Maxus-MIFA9 Supersonic April 8, 2011 Share April 8, 2011 You are saying this because you are educated and not a 19-year-old. Naturally, for these uneducated 19-year-olds, they are easily influenced and tempted to make quick bucks without understanding the full consequences. The drug lords in Malaysia make use of these kids to peddle drugs. So the REAL culprits are the drug lords. He is only 19 and still have a long way to go, he should be given a 2nd chance. If he is 29, I say hang him. To get pardon, he should reveal all his drug lords names in exchange for lighter sentence ................ but he choose not to reveal and kept mum about it. Maybe he fear of his family safety if he reveal their names and the drug lords would harm his family or he had taken an oath with the drug lords not to reveal their names ..... So either way, he should know that carrying drugs to Singapore is a bad decision and he choose to do it for quick $$$$$$$ .....
Andrewl Clutched April 8, 2011 Share April 8, 2011 M Ravi is a human rights lawyer and an advocate of anti-death penalty Really? I find him more to be an attention seeker. Joseph22 Turbocharged April 8, 2011 Share April 8, 2011 trafficking. correct. but it can be "re-charged" as possession and get 20 years for it. Question is, how much did he carry? is it little enough to be consider Possession.
Joseph22 Turbocharged April 8, 2011 Share April 8, 2011 Everyone knows drug trafficking is death penalty in Singapore. He choose the path himself so.....? Everyone has a sad story to tell. The drugs he brought will harm a lot of drug addicts here. So who feel sorry for the family of the drug addict? on top of that, i feel more sorry for the victims family if those drugs got thorough. seriously, lets not get brainwash by those so called Rights groups. they cant even get their own back yard clean up. Wizardofzzz 1st Gear April 8, 2011 Share April 8, 2011 (edited) The packet of heroin not only harm the families of the drug addict. It also harms the innocent. Drug addicts who wants to get their high and have no money. What do they do? Rob the elderly. There have been too many cases of elderly women that got robbed when in the lift. The mother of someone I knew fell victim to this. Not only was she robbed, she was also killed by the 2 farking drug addicts. This happened in Bedok many years back. It also happened recently if I remembered correctly. This will not be the first and will not be the last. Why bother putting them behind bars for life and waste taxpayer's money feeding these kind of people? Some people do deserve a second chance but definitely not drug traffickers or murderers. I agree! I don't think Rapist should deserve a second chance too. Just bcos c--k itchy can go rape ? MY opinion is that the rape sentence in our country has been too lenient Edited April 8, 2011 by Wizardofzzz
Ender Hypersonic April 8, 2011 Share April 8, 2011 trafficking. correct. but it can be "re-charged" as possession and get 20 years for it. Rather than recharge for possession, I feel it's the mandatory death sentence for drug trafficking should be changed to non-mandatory death sentence. I..e the judge can decide whether or not, so there is an allowance for in-between sentences.
