Avant_stealth Clutched April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 (edited) jz came into my mind.. the reason that giving pardon will send wrong message bla bla etc doesn't hold much water. They can grant a pardon and say this is not to be used as a precedent, no?? this rang a bell and i just did a quick google quote "judge not to be be used" and found a link of a case where the judge did indeed use those exact words albeit the case being of a different nature. summary of url link- "The judge made it clear, however, that this was a one-off case and was not to be used as a sentencing precedent." http://forums.vr-zone.com/newsroom/420139-...il-2k-fine.html din read the whole piece tho. interesting to see how the lao jiao in the legal fraternity reason! Fcw75 Hypersonic April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 lol, bro no one mentioned abt letting them get away scot-free...the point is to find a balance between the two. think the preservation of an offender's life is still worth being carefully considered for a pardon, afterall its a life. Probably commute sentence to- behind bars for life, sounds more reasonably justifiable. So who pays for all the expenses feeding him for life? The taxpayer's money. You and me. Alim 1st Gear April 7, 2011 Author Share April 7, 2011 Behind bars for life? Definitely sounds more humane, at taxpayers expense too! Now we gotta support FT as well behind bars. GG i say. Like wad the student ask, ' Can I then pay less tax since I am not prepared to feed drug addicts/dealers?' For every gram of drug these mules bring in, they are potentially destroying lives and families in one way or another. Who pities them? You guys watch too much TV. Destroy lives and families was the past. Now, Singapore, like Hollywood is a lucrative place to sell drugs to the rich and famous.
Avant_stealth Clutched April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 So who pays for all the expenses feeding him for life? The taxpayer's money. You and me. cannot see like that..must look at the bigger picture, the macro level more jobs for singaporeans to work as prison officer alternatively, can also deport back to own country and leave it to their system. Sosaria Twincharged April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 Transporting and selling drugs is so profitable that the punishment must be severe enough to deter people from being tempted to try. So why do people still take chances? Only if they are desperate enough to try... and the reason is normally poverty. This is the sad thing about the whole situation. And yet if you don't have a severe punishment, situation will become like that in the USA inner cities or ghettoes. Young men have employment opportunities, but they shun these jobs as low-paying and menial. They'd rather deal drugs for higher returns. They actually face more danger from rival gangs rather than their legal system.
Kopites Supersonic April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 Consume drug and died??? Drug addiction is the mother of all evil and will cause a whole lot of illness, you won't die literally unless consumed in large quantity. It is not cheap you know? Of course, I don't deny that he deserves punishment. Death for a 19-year-old is too harsh. ok ok my bad. Taking drug won't kill oneself only illness befall upon you. Why don't the medical industry come up with some cure for those "illness" and than everyone can happily consume drug. [NO CURE at this moment inevitably lead to death] I still hold my stand. He deserve to be hang. You have stressed his deed doesn't warrant a death sentence and should be given a 2nd chance given his young age. So what is the right age you deem eligible for a person to be punishable under death sentence ?

Silver_blade Turbocharged April 7, 2011 Share April 7, 2011 My guess is that this case would have been closed if not for the the fact that our law minister made view on this case known to the press days before the verdict is to be made. His view may influence the outcome of the verdict and it also made raise the question that a President's clemency is not decided by the president himself, but the cabinet....which the law minister is among them. At least that is the impression of the case after a quick scan of a report.

"An eye for an eye makes the world blind" Regards, no offence to anything Well said. Actually, I am not against death sentence but MANDATORY death sentence. MANDATORY means judges cannot consider the circumstances of the crime at their discretion. ↡ Advertisement
