Mazda Biante MPV

I just got my Biante 2 weeks back. For the past 1 week, i started hearing knocking noise coming from the rear. At first I thought it was from the spare tyre or the things i put in the boot. However, after removing everything and tracing the source of the knocking noise, I realised it was coming from the rear pillar. It sounds like something came loose inside the pillar and its starts knocking when the car starts moving...

Anyone else experiencing it? Is it normal?

That would be me. My case its on and off. Sometimes its so loud I cannot stand it. So I set an appointment. Close to appointment date the noise decided to disappear. How to let them troubleshoot like that. I dismissed the problem in the end. But now that I have another ' supporter', i think I will make another appointment to get it checked. You should too

Could it be the seat belts not slot in properly onto the holder? Sometime mine also knocked against the pillar when vehicle moving.

That, is a different problem altogether. What we encountered seemed to come from the structure behind itself. I haven't had time to get it checked yet. Maybe later this month..

BenBiante is exactly correct. The knocking noise comes from within the pillar and not from the seat belt holders. I've arranged for my 1000km servicing on 20th Jun. As it is, barely two weeks into my new car,

1. Rear knocking noise coming from the rear pillar

2. My headrest monitor switching off on its own at times

3. I hear pretty audible water gushing/sloshing noise coming from the dashboard. (a check on the internet says its air trapped in the cooling system.)

I mean the car is awesome and comfortable being a people mover. And i really love the car even with these issues.. But its just that I don't think these issues should surface this quickly.

Relax and not be affected by all these minor issues. For factory original parts, Biante is very reliable. Mine is more than 2 yrs old still running vety fine.

There will always be minor issues or noises, especially for jap cars due to cosmrtic parts been snapped together rather than tightentened with screws. I have experienced mostly seatbelt rubbing noises, cannot remember previous VW having so much wierd noises. But those issues due to aftermarket works like headrest and head units not fair to blame on Mazda lah.

True, but the local installer should be accountable to a better standard than this? Gives the originally good brand and design a bad name...

Ive read in the malaysia lxxyxt forums that some there also encountered the rear knocking sounds issue.

Hope the local QC has found where the problem lies as this is a car that im considering for an upgrade to MPV.

I have also experienced the headunit cannot power up due to fuse blow before soon after collecting this ride. But these are aftermarket installers that Mazda has no control over. To be fair there is nothing much any AD can do other than to check functionality after the installation. Mazda has been prompt in trying to resolve so I have no complain. To me this is minor and would not affect my confidence in the AD.

But I understand my threshold is quite high for this kind of thing, unless car cannot move haha.

Anyway I am no blinded by my faith in Mazda lah. Surely there will be issues as there is no perfect ride. Do keep us updated of your issues so that we can be aware of them. Cheers.

actually. most of the so called defects are from the local installation.

the factory fitted stuff are actually quite ok.

our mazda 8 also HU had some issues. but the rectification was quick and painless. i guess that's the difference between AD and PI.

Congrates!

Unfortunately I have not changed my rims, so lets wait for other bro/sis to answer your question.

Please bring your ride to chiong NSHW after the run-in period if you are familiar with the place. Must accelerate till 140~~150 km/hr for extended period, done safely of course. You will feel your ride a different animal after that. And Skyactive work like a mini turbo.

Enjoy your ride.

Just got my biante a month ago, and got the same knocking/rattling sound coming from the rear area since day 1. Did some troubleshooting and found out the sound is from the rubber seals at the rear hatch door. This happens when the hatch door is shut and when driving, the frame of the car flexes while the door doesn't flex as much. Thus the rubber seal is rubbing very slightly against the metal of the hatch door. The drier or stickier the rubber is, the louder and more constant the sound. Apparently this occurrence with other cars is talked about quite often in other countries if you Google.

I found in the internet a few DIY solutions to this:

1. apply car wax to the metal on the hatch door (and rubber seal if you want) apply and buff lightly like you waxing car

2. Apply a thin coat of talcum powder to the rubber seal and metal on the hatch door.

3. Apply oil or grease.

I opted for the talcum powder way and so far it works. It's been two weeks since I've done it, haven't done anything else to it since. I open my hatch door about 2-3 times a week to load groceries.

P.s. The grease/oil method won't be good enough. It will leave a slimy mess behind, plus it will dry up and end up being sticky, which will in turn become noiser than before.

I haven't tried the car wax option.

I just done my 1000 km servicing. Just to share my experience:

1. From the time I call them till the time I get my car serviced, it Takes about 2 weeks. And it's a weekday slot. So my suggestion is to anticipate it in advance and call at least two weeks before hand. I was at 900km when I called and by the time I got it serviced, it was at 1900km. Not ideal but lesson learnt.

2. Credits to them, they did solve all the issues I highlighted. For the knocking rear noise, they re-aligned the rear-tailgate and I hadn't hear any knocking noise the past two days. As for the rest of the issues, they ran checks and rectified the issues accordingly. My car has been running perfectly the last couple of days since I got it serviced. (If it takes a re-alignment of the tailgate to remove the knocking noise, I STRONGLY encourage all bros here to do so! Just let them know when you do your servicing next time, at least you won't feel pek cek while driving.)

3. I think they washed and vacuum the car before they return it! I'm not sure, I didn't ask but I don't remember sending my car in that clean!

4. Their waiting area quite chill if you're just gonna wait awhile. Got a bit of makan too if you're up for some snacks. You can ask the servicing consultant how long it'll take to service the car. If not much car that day, I think you can get it under 2 hours.

Just done 60,000km servicing today. Took whole day and cost $800, same as estimation given. Parts came to $4xx while labour charges was $3xx, inclusive of aircon filter at $120. A bit on the high side.

Feedback about squeaking noise when fat people sat on the driver seat was solved by replacing the front left damper FOC. Confirmed sound gone for now.

Air swooshing sound when opening rear hatch door was solved by doing alignment works. This noise appeared only 2 weeks ago.

Car was washed and vacuumed quite well compare to previous ADs. No complain except for the cost. If lower would have been perfect, haha.

Yes, only the front is stainless steel and the back cover is plastic.

Fits in very nicely. I ordered 2 pieces as one for the spare remote key. [thumbsup]

My rear hatch door knocking sound came back again so I highlighted it to the mechanic at AD during my servicing appointment. He said he will lube the stoppers on the rear hatch door. So far it's been 3 days since it's been done and it's been soundless, that's good! For those who want to solve the problem yourself I suggest you take a look at the square stoppers at the left and right of the hatch door when it's open. (Square knob, about the size of a casino dice, male side on hatch door and female side on car itself.) It was lubed with grease. Not sure what type of grease though.
