Swapping of transmissions: AT to MT, vice versa

Hi guys, anyone has done this before? Intending to swap my AT to MT with my friend. Been to several workshops they told me it's a lot of work. But further research online tells me it's not that difficult. Anyone have any workshop to recommend to swap our transmissions?

Yes I have done it before. Some says I was crazy and that I can do much better than just a swap. All I know is I need to satisfy my lust to drive a manual car. I initially bought an automatic tranny Civic ES5 then sold it and bought another Civic ES5 manual tranny.

Oh haven't answer your question...

You can do the swap but mechanically a lot has to be done.. then there is the legality part where LTA needs a set of documents to verify that the transmission is authentically for your car. So it is easier to just swap cars and pay a bit on the transfer fees.

Let's set aside the LTA part, yes mechanically there's a lot to be done. But even so, it should be rather direct right? Cos all parts are up and ready. It's only difficult when you try to convert auto to manual without a full set of parts?

most impt is the paper work.

certifying that that particular model of car and that particular gear system are meant for each other.

We are swapping transmission both with the same car? How does the paper work goes? Found out from LTA webby that it's a mod that do not need inspection.

In theory it is dead easy - each car has parts that the other needs. But in practice, many small parts may get broken/lost during the process unless you happened to have your own garage space and you are doing the work yourself (then you would take extreme care and also a lot of time).

Its simpler to swap chassis identification plates and licence plates (not that I am suggesting that you do that at all!). It is an offence and you should not try your luck with the law.

"LTA allows the transmissions to be changed from manual to auto and vice versa. LTA requires the following to be submitted for approval evaluation:

a) Invoice of the proposed transmission from the supplier.

b) Certification from the manufacturer stating that the transmission is suitable for the vehicle"

the ECU will have to swap too...

not worth the hassle, just change car better and easier, at least for me.

The workshop I went told me that swapping gearbox is a very direct task. Not as difficult as some bros mentioned. Just asking, how many of you guys actually converted your transmission before. I been to many workshops and every workshop is telling me a different thing! I settle down on the workshop one bro recommended to me. They are very professional!
