Hi,

need some advice from gurus here... driving a 2006 Chevrolet Optra 1.6A... noticed that my check engine oil indicator lighted up, so stopped car immediately and check engine oil. It was within the min & max level... then con't driving home and reliased that indicator only lights up when i release accelerator and will goes off when i step on gas... it is also on when idling...

Anybody encounter this before or any idea what's wrong? due sensor faulty, contaminated oil?

Thanks in advance.

Possible causes:-

Oil filter partially blocked/choked (replace with new oil filter)

Engine oil not suitable for usage (check with AD's office the recommended specification engine oil)

Check for faulty indicator light (unlikely)

Engine oil pump a little too worn to maintain the oil pressure (go see Vehicle Mechanic)

Can be any two of them, or all three of them.

4 yrs never change before? u drive how many km already?

fuel filter recommend to change every 30k km

if it is dirty or clog, sure can lead to other problem

did you change anything lately? it could be the ecu sensor, our optra has a very smart ecu which will self learn, ( I was told of this). few days back I changed my battery and the engine light came on for a while, but went away after that, was told by workshop is the ecu trying to adjust.

Sometimes I can really can fall off from my chair when I see some of the replies, especially related to technical advise. Don't know why but its clear that we have a brain drain in MCF which has happened many many years ago. Now we focus on day-day issues, politics, .... and when it comes to car issues..... :o How many who has done real maintenance on their own car?

Anyway, to the TS .... to briefly answer your question, you might be having a faulty oil level sensor (float). Near the oil sump, there is a sensor with a elect cable. Check for leakage or if the wires have oil leaking through them. Anyway if you go to any workshop, they will suggest you to change that.

That oil level sensor or float, is an alert if the oil level falls to very low levels. But if your dip stick shows the level is ok, it means this sensor is faulty. To replace it, the best way is to wait till your next servicing, drain all the oil, open the oil sump and replace this sensor.

If it's really just the engine oil indicator light as what you described, and if dip stick shows ok, then I think it's ok. If you have a CEL - Check Engine Light on, then it's different. In that case, you need a OBD reader to pull fault codes out from your car. Most (if not all) workshops in sg should have these handy. Maybe you might get a P0520 code.

If you never go Malaysia, fuel filter in Singapore can last a long time.

It is not likely a fuel issue.

More likely engine oil, filter issue.

Hi TS, has your issue been solved? Any reasons for it?

One of my friend's Optra is also having the same issue...when press gas, lights go off, when release gas pedal lights go on.

LOL....what ppl should do is when you reach home wait for the oil to settle down, next morning dan check your oil level, dan you will get an accurate reading. You just stopped your engine and immediately take out the dip stick, oil is all over in the engine block, how to read? If you can get within max & min that means your oil level is very very low.

Ok then should be what when the car is fully cooled down? At the max level?
