I am interested in Business (Finance).

But i am torn apart between two uni. (ANU and UniMelb)

What i heard and my thoughts

UniMelb - Great uni for business (2nd ranking uni in aust) Great life in melb

ANU - ok ok for business (1st ranking uni in aust), boring life in canberra.

Any advise ? THanks :D

To be honest,

I am more swayed to ANU because of its high ranking

But UniMelb seems equally good but just lack of ranking. but its good in business..

My heart tells me to go to UniMelb but my minds tells me to go to ANU bcos of its ranking. DAm.

overseas education is more than juz ranking. it's the whole life experience. melb vs canberra - where do u tink you'll learn more from?

besides, the ranking not like top uni harvard, MIT, oxford.... [laugh] so no need to be too hung up on that, esp if it's a onli bachelors degree.

Graduated from ANU in 1998.

Can't comment about Uni life in Melbourne, but living in Canberra as a student vs visiting as a tourist is totally different. It's not a place I will call boring once you settle in.

Apply early to get admission to Block D (D stands for damn happening !!) of Burton & Garran Hall (located on Uni grounds).

End of the day, ranking is not as important as how you sell yourself in paper (resume to employers) and then during engagement (interview) and ultimately executing your job...

My take is, go do some research and read about how each uni conduct their courses. There are some learning institutes with great rankings but doesn

Trust me, you should choose UniMelb.

If not, either Sydney Uni or UNSW will be good as well.

Most of the Uni, business study is recognized. If you want to know which one is more prestige, just compare those professional course that is recognized by our government (Public Service Comission?). In my time, only 10 Uni are recognized for engineering. ANU is not inside the list. For Medical, only 3 Uni which are UWA, Uni of Melborne and Sydney.

However, pls take note that my buddy in NS took Uni of Melborne. He is a COM holder in Ploy. From 2 years study, he extend to 2.5 yrs instead. Luckily, I choose different Uni, at least study is not so tough.

Poly should be 3.45/4 right? You should've no prob getting into Local Uni i suppose. Unless of course, you feeling loaded and want the overseas experience, then by all means go ahead. 1 thing i regretted is not going overseas (UK) to study when my parents have the ability to. Instead, i chose NUS.. [:(]

Hey!

The reason why i chose overseas uni compared to local uni is because i got 1year exemption off overseas uni (which will shorten my uni life by 1year). However, Local uni they dont provide exemptions/advance standing. :(

depends on what course ba.. I'm from poly too, and NUS gave me 1yr worth of module exemptions.. So i graduate in 3 yrs (instead of A level students, which is 4 yrs). Btw, i'm in Engineering.

My gf, from SP Banking/Finance, now in SMU. SMU gave her some exemption, which shorten her course to 3.5 yrs(from 4 yrs), and she gets Double Major (Finance & Management) at the same time. In her case, she don't get upfront exemptions, but once she is admitted to SMU, she applied for exemptions based on her academic transcripts in SP.

Anyway, feedback from local companies is, if all else is equal between 2 candidates, local uni(NUS, NTU, SMU) grad is still preferable to overseas grad, unless you're from top uni like Oxford, Cambridge etc, which in this case, most would rather stay overseas.. [laugh]
