Disagree of people saying Toyota is boring .

Some cars are built for comfort not for speed lar bro!

Just like chicks lol

Well in the first place my judgement on Toyota is not only based on speed. I prefer a more all rounded approach, exterior, interior, materials, performance, car features. If Toyota excelled in one of these aspects but fail the rest, I can understand.

But it doesn't do well in any of those sadly.

I have a MR2, and now a Copen... both by toyota....

Is it that boring?

What about Supras and Celica GT4?

Boring enough for you?

If you bother to read the thread abit, general views about Toyota being boring is about current line up.

No one is disputing toyotas of the past. All these mr2, celica, supra.. So old. Stop living in the past. Things need to improve or freshen up, Toyota hasn't done that.

Look at other car brands, their future offerings are mostly quite exciting. Toyota? Only the FT86 is probably exciting. The usual altis camry crown rav4 yaris vios.. Dull as hell.

My reasons:

Vios S - 1st car, COE high, all the basic necessities plus digital meter, reasonable price

Wish - 2nd car, need extra space, good 1.8L engine

Estima Hybrid - upgrade, need more space, full-sized hybrid MPV was a cool concept

I can say that they weren't exciting cars, but the yen was low so they were value for money.

If I ever go back to Toyota/Lexus, it's probably because the hybrid technology has won me over.

After switching to conti, I think I will continue the trend, especially with the Euro low and the COE high.

More choices, better handling, more thoughtful features.

'

Bro , I can see you are quite into hybrid models..

If 2.4 camry performance like 1.5 airwave, then 2.0 camry performance like 1.1 picanto liao? [lipsrsealed]

One thing for sure. Some people here is anti-Toyota. Some may not have driven one too. I dont understand how one can say the performance of a 2.4 litre Camry is on par with the 1.6 Honda Airwave. This is pure lying and I would never dare to make such a statement.

Toyota have made many nice cars from the Celicas to Supras to LFA to Prado. All cool. Even in the angmo Corollas are cool with much more HP than the ones sold here. The boring branding is because alot Ah Peks loves to drive this reliable, non frills work horse.

Toyota have their own target audience, those who want cheap, relatively good fc, reliable. They fulfill all this 3.

You want cheap, of cos not exciting.

If the car is exciting, the price tag would be exciting too.

I know many will say toyota is not cheap, but relative to their japan competitors like honda, mazda, nissan, toyota is still cheaper.

The formula that toyota have used to maintain their reliability is to have a simple engine without much electronic component or features. So of course not exciting, but it fulfill its purpose as a transport.

Engine performance, needless to say, good power = worse fc. simple theory

Since toyota is a b&b brand for the masses, it shld cut cost as much as possible and go for the sales quantity.

SO the verdict, is it boring? As a toyota driver, YES, but no complaints, i choose it cos its the cheapest.

The reasoning for u owning 3 toyota is valid enough. [:)] I also like the Vios S cause of the digital meter, looks so cool. But i remember that time this Vios S sold ard $70K, so ex! But although u own 3 toyota, but none of them is the well known popular model, Corolla Altis! [:p]

Haha .. Altis is just too common. Nothing much to mod to make it special either.

The original 2003 Vios model was quite sporty for that era, and had a fresher look than the Civic, Corolla or Lancer then. I don't like the current Vios though.

Bro , I can see you are quite into hybrid models..

Having driven one for 2.5 years, I know the advantages of hybrids.

Pity the PI warranty finished and the road tax was high.

Jumped to the conti ship eventually.

I don't mind buying a hybrid from BM, though I suspect that most manufacturers will have more competitive hybrids in 5 years' time. Hybrids are best suited to our traffic conditions. I averaged 13.2 km/L with my Estima Hybrid over the 2.5 years.

To me, BM includes Lexus. I won't rule out Lexus hybrids (my wife is more into Lexus) but I'll see what BMW comes up with in a few years.

Already learnt how to maximise the economy of a hybrid, so it's easy to repeat that next time.

13.2 km/L is a result of training the right foot.

Best FC figures are 14.4 km/L on the Wish and 14.6 km/L on the Estima Hybrid.

Worst FC figures (if I push the car more) are about 11-12 km/L for both.

It's just for the fun of it to see the best possible real-world FC, and not to drive like that every day.

..adding to that "boring" comment, Toyota USA vice president and general manager Bob Carter chipped in:

"Styling is subjective...When you see so many of them on the road, they start to look familiar.." [:p]
